Report links Rangers with January move for in-form SPL defender

In some slightly better news for Rangers fans, Dundee’s on-form centre back Jack Hendry is said to be a prime January transfer target for the second half of the season.

Rangers’ defensive options are generally regarded as less than impressive, with none of the summer signings convincing, while Danny Wilson, David Bates and Ross McCrorie are also not viewed as a long-term solution.

The 22-year old former Partick stopper is a major reason for Dundee’s mini revival of late, with current manager Neil McCann getting more from him than his predecessor did.

Hendry has a fine CV for one so young, with a spell in England at Wigan to his name, not to mention Shrewsbury and MK Dons, so for such a youthful CB he certainly has a wealth of experience both north and south of the border.

He is contracted to Dens till 2019 so it would certainly take a decent transfer fee to persuade McCann to part company with him, but Rangers are definitely in need of high quality talent in defence and Hendry could well fit the bill.

  1. Can someone explain why, with Alves, Cardoso, Wilson, McCrorie, Bates and young Aidan Wilson on the books we need to seek another central defender?
Bates was MOTM against Aberdeen then dropped for Bruno who has not shown any great strength since returning. Or before for that matter. Bates also looked solid under the waves of Hibs attacks when he came on. Alves is good, but I would be tempted to let him prepare for the World Cup elsewhere while we prepare for the future.

Even if McCrorie settles in midfield, we are covered. I could understand this IF we are going to get money for Alves and think Bates and Wilson are not worth new contracts, but be realistic, we are not going to find significantly better and they already know what is required to play here.

Or it could be that nowhere else in the team needs strengthened as the other areas are all working perfectly – if you believe that, go lie down in a dark room with aspirin and wait patiently for the doctor 🙁

  2. Tony Pulis linked today and afterwards he gives an interview saying "Old Firm are two of biggest in Britain"

I'm starting to get excited now…!!!

If he gets the backing, he'd be hugely successful for us.

  3. Nothing against jack Hendry but we need stronger centre backs who will go through a brick wall, the 2nd goal we lost yday was shocking as school boys would have defended better, and although I'm changing the subject the most annoying thing is that if the board had done things properly/earlier in the season by appointing a British manager then I believe we could have stopped the so called Invincibles? this season but instead we have to start all over again for next season…Am still Hoping though!!! watp Helicopter 2005
