Rangers to make move for Scotland international; reports

Rangers have this morning (again) been linked with Brighton’s Jamie Murphy, with reports Director of Football Mark Allen is set to green light a near £1.5M bid for the ex-Motherwell winger.

The 28 year old has been on Rangers’ radar for some time, with the attacker having a troubled time in the EPL having struggled to make too many appearances for Brighton in the English top flight, but the pursuit of his services this time around may put paid to the notion of the arrival at Ibrox of Hearts’ Jamie Walker once and for all.

Rangers certainly lack extensive quality on the wings, with only Daniel Candeias doing anything like a half decent job out there. Declan John is only a loan, albeit has been much better than expectations, and Josh Windass continues to be inconsistent.

Therefore a permanent signature like Murphy would be pretty welcome, albeit the ex-Sheffield man decided against coming back north some time ago, but back then England was still a fresh challenge to him.

He would be a decent addition, and as a Scotland international, comes with experience and quality above and beyond what Rangers probably have.

  1. He is like James McArthur someone we should have signed years ago. Both Murphy and McArthur are also like Dorrans true Rangers men.
Hope the rumour comes to fruition. Another player I think we might look at is former Rangers midfielder is languishing on the Bench at the moment with Stoke is Charlie Adam, who I reckon we might get him on loan till the end of the season who can give us the dig in midfield we need alongside Ryan Jack.
    Just a thought!

  2. Good player but I really hope this isn't true. When are Rangers going to learn that the only way to have any chance of catching Celtic is by copying them. They've turned £10m into £50 in 4 years with the likes of Foster, Wanyama, Van Dijk, Ki etc. We need to invest in scouting and treat signings as investments, not short term fixes in our desperation to do the impossible, win the league this season or next. We need to accept that it's simply not possible and buy players today who could be title winners in 2019. This policy would have led to signing McGinn when he was 20 on a free in 2015. The policy of buying established but ageing players is costing us a fortune and widening the gap between us and Celtic.

    • More often than not rangers seem to buy players for inflated prices thend sell them on for peanuts. This practice has got to stop. I agree with you that we need to invest like celtic and sell for huge profits.

    • Well said 👍

Our club lacks strategy and long term planning. I'm really disappointed in how little mark Allen is bringing to the table.

    • Excellent comment …we need to sign two types of players at the moment those who can ensure we keep 2nd spot at least ..eg Charlie Adam and those for next season and future

  3. Yip, this signing would really improve the team….. another complete waste of space that cant even get on a subs bench, time for Mark Allen and Dave King to vacate Ibrox, they should be included in the Rangers pantomime this year

  4. Fair point regarding the need to sign players with sell on value – but I'd like to make an exception and see us sign Naismith in January as he is out of things at Norwich. He'd be perfect in the no10 role in the current diamond formation.

  5. Charlie Adam can hardly walk never mind run utter pish!!
There room for Murphy and walker as we have no quality on the wings and we need to have a strong bench a good depth to the squad

  6. Josh Windass continues to be inconsistent? This statement is 4 games old he has a new lease of life up front scoring and terrifying defenders that's if you have been watching

  7. John he's scored a few goals but he's been utter pish outwith that,I'm really not sure what game you're watching.

  8. Mac, if he continues scoring at that rate, I can cope.
Hibs forwards were much better than ours on Wednesday. They terrorised our defence. Our forwards were pish.
Mind you, they both scored and the Hibs forwards didn't. If that continued until the end of the season, I would be quite happy
