Injury crisis: Rangers could lose six men for Dundee

Rangers’ caretaker manager Graeme Murty looks set to be without six first-team players for tonight’s strip to Dens Park with injury and illness blighting the squad.

With a win desperately needed following Saturday’s result, Rangers could use having all their resources at their disposal, but unfortunately various ailments and aches have caused a significant portion of players to be unavailable to face Neil McCann’s men.

Long term absentee Jordan Rossiter has not only got a physical injury issue to continue to contend with, but the 20-year old has now been struck down by a mystery virus too. This creates memories of Chris Burke who was laid out for almost 18 months with some unknown infection as well. We are losing hope for the lad but my goodness we want him to turn it around.

Meanwhile Lee Wallace is at 90% of his full capacity now and is probably only weeks or even a week away from a return. As the captain he is likely to slot straight back into left back. But he will miss Dundee.

Bruno Alves is laid off as well, with a muscular problem – there is no precise time scale on the big man’s return but he is hopefully expected to make the Aberdeen double header and has been training individually to get fitness back.

Lee Hodson is also a possible doubt. The Northern Irish international had a foot problem against Hamilton but may be ok for the squad tonight.

Fabio Cardoso is also very much back in training following that broken nose – but the Portuguese stopper has confirmed Dundee comes too soon for his first-team return.

And last but not least is final long-term absentee Graham Dorrans who has no time scale at all on his ankle problem but is being rehabilitated steadily.

In better news Declan John returned to training following a bout of illness last Friday, and he will start at left back, and the squad is otherwise healthy.

  1. Rossiter – hasn't ever been a fixture and largely forgotten about by most fans so doesn't constitute an "injury" in that respect
Wallace – not really bothered so long as John is fit
Alves – at his best a starter but is he at his best?
Hodson – the bad news just keeps coming – Hodson might be fit! How this guy gets to pull on a Rangers top is beyond me. At half time the other week they had two under 11s teams playing and I saw more skill, positivity and tactical awareness from those boys than I've ever seen from this numpty
Cardoso – out for how long with a broken nose? FFS – some players play on with that.
Dorrans – a genuine miss. hope he gets fit soon

So I'd say we are really missing one key player (Dorrans); three who could get a game maybe or come off the bench (Wallace; Alves; Cardoso); one hospital patient (Rossiter); and one park player (Hodson. Apologies to any park players offended by the comparison)

Looking at it that way makes me feel better

  2. look it disnae matter how many players out should be able to beat dundee
fucksake we are supposed to be glasgow rangers not a fucking second best club. they get beat tonight shut the doors

  3. This is just to make up excuses incase points are dropped, those players are not 1st teamers, dundee have more 1st team injuries, odea also got his nose broke against you name it 'motherwell' a few days after cup game too but hes back in the team only to be banned for 2 games lol, more of a chance for gers imo
