A new beginning? Good luck to the new era at Ibrox

With ex-manager Pedro Caixinha’s diabolical Hispanic revolution now a thing of the past, today’s trip to Murrayfield to face Hearts takes on an all new complexion.

Caretaker manager Graeme Murty will be flanked by Jonatan Johansson as assistant and wholesale changes would be thoroughly welcomed for the first team.

It is worth bearing in mind though the last time Rangers parted company with a manager and Murty took charge, he kept mostly with the existing team. But with half of Rangers’ issues being due to the influx of struggling overseas players, Ibrox Noise proposes a starting XI for this weekend’s crunch fixture (are they not all) which might just give us the organisational steel needed.

There is little to choose between Alnwick and Foderingham although we would probably prefer the former, so while we would select the ex-Port Vale stopper, Foderingham is fine too.

We would select a 3-5-2

                  D Wilson, McCrorie, A Wilson
                             Holt    Barjonas
                       Hodson    Miller        John
                             Candeias
                                       Morelos

Something a bit different. Has a bit of steel and fight, and right now is probably our best XI. Frankly I would have few Pedro signings bar the front two anywhere near the XI but I am happy to see any team start. Even previously on-fire Morelos has been awful in recent matches, but hopefully the restoration of Miller will get the best back out of him.

Ryan Jack is appealing his red card so will be available, but we would prefer him on the bench. He needs to get his head sorted so he can focus on football rather than losing his discipline.

But most of all we are just happy to see a couple of safe pair of hands in the dugout today – Graeme Murty might not be Sacchi, but he has carried out his duties with dignity and aplomb, and given the spotlight when he did not really want it, managed nevertheless to keep Rangers afloat at a time we needed a captain the last time he ended up in this role.

Meanwhile Johansson scouted Morelos, who has certainly livened up Scottish football, and in his playing days, media days and now coaching days, the Finn has also carried himself in the class of what we would expect of a Ranger.

We wish them, and whatever XI they select, even if it is filled with Pedro signings, the very best of luck and hopefully this is the start of the Real Rangers at long last.

What are your suggestions though guys, who would you like to see line up in the famous Light Blue shirt today?

  1. Sorry but that is a fanciful selection, one for which you would lambast the manager if it was not your idea.
Central defence is a problem, I don't think Tavernier is the greatest defender, but that is a very inexperienced back row including two teenagers with less than 10 combined starts.
Holt is not a defensive midfielder, he is an attacking one – Halliday was given the defensive role not because he was good at it, he is also an attacking midfielder, but because he is better at it than Holt. Don't remember Ibrox Noise calling for Halliday's return 🙂
Hodson has not impressed in any role this season. He may come good again, but I would give him a chance by bringing him into a settled winning team. This is not.
I don't know whether Miller can fill the attacking midfield role but would be willing to give it a try – if the rest of the team is solid and settled. You have proposed a lot of changes with players being picked out of position, something else Ibrox Noise has attacked other managers for.
Candeias in the 10 role behind Morelos is interesting, but not where crosses come from.
Personally, I would rather we tried Hardie up front with Morelos. We need to find out whether he is good enough, lets start today. Dorrans or Holt in the hole, Candeias wide right, Nemanje or Atakayi wide left. I don't know whether it should be Jack or Barjonas holding mid, happy with either.
Tav Right back, John left back, Danny Wilson and McRorie at Centre Back.
Let's try your ideas, but one at a time in a settled team, that way you can judge their impact better.
Whoever plays, lets get behind the team, the manager and the club

    • Way to kill our good mood Scots! We don’t really care who starts. We’re just glad to be excited again. To have hope.

      Killjoy!

  2. agree totally with Scott and everybody singing about achievements Derek McInnes has made ?? has anybody watched Aberdeen?? a very average football playing team and flattered with 2 second place finishes simply because Rangers Hearts Dundee United and Hibs have not been good enough They are still a mile behind Celtic and his record in Europe is very very poor and we need to aspire to much better than that,Jim R

  3. Foderingham has been in great form all season and has to start.
Aiden Wilson played the first half for the development squad last night so is unlikely to start against Hearts.
I'm sure part of the reason for appealing Jacks card was to ensure he can play today so he'd be a certain starter alongside Holt.
Hodson is a reasonable back up for full back but no way is he a starter and certainly not in midfield. Might possibly have to fill in at centre back with McCrorie if Danny Wilson isn't 100% fit though.
Tavernier and Candeias work well together on the right and hopefully will continue.
And Kenny back in for the hopeless Pena and maybe a first start for young Nemane.

    Foderingham
    Tavernier, D. Wilson, McCrorie, John
    Holt, Jack
    Candeias, Morelos, Miller Nemane

  4. Graeme Murty and Jonatan Johansson then way not let these two do the this job for the rest of this season and judge them on that we could try for the cup and find out where these players can take us,we expect nothing so anything good that comes our way is a bonus let them two do the job.

  5. I feel sorry for who ever takes over at ibrox having to deal with a bunch of egos who think they can hold a club to ransom and sack a manager because they don't agree with his tactics it's bad when a senior player is believed to have leaked a team sheet prior to a game Kenny should leave ibrox now after bringing the club into dispute causing them to sack their manager with the help of others in the club.
