Should Pedro snap up Uruguayian free agent winger and ex-team mate of Candeias?

As Rangers fans know only too well, while yesterday’s performance and result was promising, the left wing issue still remains a prominent problem.

Pedro Caixinha has four options for that flank, none of which are outright answers. Declan John was conspicuous by his complete absence from the match day squad after two days earlier stating he would get minutes at the weekend, while Niko Kranjcar’s form continues to be an issue of contention.

Josh Windass shows inconsistent promise and regular injury, while new signing Aaron Nemane is still green and an unknown quantity.

As such, should Pedro make a move for a player he may be familiar with, in more ways than one?

Carlos de Pena, a 25-year old Uruguayan left winger is currently a free agent but did spend some time at Caixinha’s old haunt in Nacional.

Like his former team mate and now current Rangers star Daniel Candeias, he managed quite a few appearances for the Bolso, amassing well over 50, but his career has, again similar to the Portuguese, stalled a little.

Beyond the novelty of his name, Pena could be a shrewd acquisition for a very modest outlay, and provide a proper and dedicated option for the left wing rather than the patchwork options Caixinha currently has at his disposal.

Pena’s spell at Middlesbrough was roundly criticised and the young winger was said to have failed to adapt to the pace of the English game, but few point out the fact that immediately before he signed he and his mother were involved in a car crash which would have seriously affected his mood and life prior to such a big change.

Rangers have given Candeias a new lease of life, while Morelos bangs them in and Alves and Cardoso look the part.

With a low risk fact and low wages, would Carlos De Pena be a worthwhile addition?

NB: Thanks to Calum Morrison who has pointed out an error on our part – the Nacional de Pena played for was the one from his homeland, not Portugal’s. Nevertheless, this does not reduce the potential for his signature.

  1. This Uruguyan winger might improve our dire situation, where the PM (Pensioner Miller) usually plays and seldom contributes anything like what a good winger should contribute. We would not have this problem if Rangers had signed Jamie Walker as we all know they should have done. We will never be good enough with people like Miller and Krancjar regularly getting in the team. They are both too old, too slow, and cannot last 90 minutes in any fast paced game.

  2. Would this Uruguayan not need a Wirk Permit? He might have got one at Middlesbrough, but that is no guarantee he will get one now. Prefer to wait for Walker in January as Hearts will sell for a fraction of the fee they were asking for. In the meantime give Windass and John a run.

  3. This guy played for Nacional in his homeland, Uruguay and not the Portuguese club that were managed by Caixinha and where Candeias played.

  4. Why are we still paying for Dalcio? cant see us taking in another player for LM even if we do need one. Walker in Jan for a small fee would be a better addition. i would even conciser using beerman/Hogson at LB and pushing Wallace up into LM.

  5. agree with last comment hogson and wallace further up he would get us goals for sure the way he plays question is out on dalcio ? maybe him out walker in no point in paying him if not playing him

  6. I do think time is up for Nico …he is not fit enough or quick enough to play at the level required. Good man to have on the bench and probably good in training to , but done sorry Nico !! . Kenny M can still do it but he too needs to be used sparingly … Not sure what the Left Wing Answer is ??? Walker might be it . By the way How much more Bile and Hatred will that Bastard Liewell spew out about us … He is a disgrace !! BBC coverage of our game poor again , yet they gush over the Rotten Mob as if they were fabulous!!!! come on Hamilton were Garbage !!! Sinclair could have had a lie down the time he was given… Total OT as usual.. I hope they get Gubbed by PSG and Bayern and Anderlecht

    • Liewell just a CUNT mate ignore the unwashed prick.
I get this Uruguayan guy in and give him the once over if he's good enough for the Rangers give him a pen simple, he's South American U never know!?
Also not convinced Walker is Rangers class (Hope I'm well wrong!!)
Right Dalcio the manager must see something that we've certainly not seen?? Bit of a mystery that one for me, leave that one with Pedro methinks!!
