Elephants, Vegas, and dressing room splits at Ibrox

Moles, rifts, leaks, dressing room chaos, squad divisions…

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha has not had his problems to seek of late, with all sorts of absolute nonsense emanating from Ibrox Towers in the past week or so since the Old Firm debacle.

Sure, the scoreline on the day was not hideous, but everything else that afternoon from his scuffle with Scott Brown to the alleged altercation with John Kennedy in the tunnel was the kind of ‘publicity’ Pedro neither wants nor needs.

With a crucial trip to the SuperSeal Stadium to face Hamilton tomorrow awaiting, all the negativity in the press and allegedly coming from the dressing room really is rather unwelcome.

It is nothing new, of course. Bears of a slightly older vintage will remember the famous Dutch divide where it was claimed the Little General Dick Advocaat was giving Rangers’ Nederland contingent preferential treatment and causing fractures in the squad as a result.

In truth, it is possible that one was not a million miles off the truth given the ex-PSV manager ‘moved upstairs’ not long after all that started.

Is history repeating itself here? For Caixinha’s sake he will hope not, but interestingly he has alluded to the lack of indispensability on his part by conceding he has no idea how long he could last in the job; he recognises the disposable nature of football coaches these days. Look at Frank de Boer!

But Pedro needs more from his squad than he is getting – albeit whether that lack of return is down to the methods he is employing or a squad simply not delivering is hard to say.

Equally though this rubbish from the dressing room is making a real eyesore of things. Claims senior players are unhappy with the manager conflict with other claims that they are not.

Claims that the homegrown players are being slightly hostile towards the imports conflict with claims that Pedro merely asked them to help integrate these players more, rather than acutely accusing them of the opposite.

And more and more claims that there is one player, who will remain nameless, that resides at the centre of all the disharmony and is a player Pedro is alleged to not even want in his squad; meanwhile other claims contrast with this and say he is in fact one of those on Pedro’s side 100% and is trying his best to support the manager.

It is also rumour, counter rumour, elephants and Vegas, and quite honestly while we have seen all these components in the past many times, it is rare that it all happens under one manager like this.

It is a troubled tenure, no doubt about that – fans are divided between those who want to give Pedro more time, and that he ‘deserves’ that chance, and those who want him gone now.

The latter is a problem – how would a new manager integrate with a significantly Hispanic squad who came to Rangers for Pedro? But equally would a new manager get more out the players who seem to be underperforming like Dorrans, Wallace, Windass and Alves?

All we know is Rangers go to Martin Cannings’ place, again, and hope against all hope we can manage a decent win against a side who have not won since the 19th of August and currently reside a lowly 8th following a lively start to the season.

Rangers need a lift. Here is hoping we get one.

  1. Apparently we have a director of football surely the board must recognise that pedro is a loose cannon with statements and press interviews to add to the other deficiencies he has and have the director take more of a lead in how we deal with the media example pedro says Pena is amongst the top three fittest players we have god help us if this is how he makes excuses for a player who never mind his fitness just seems to have no commitment or desire to put in a shift for us

  2. Every Rangers supporter now knows that Pedro is not good enough for a big club like the Ibrox side.

It is only a matter of when he gets the chop!

    • I'm in agreement with you Richard. I gave Pedro till the old firm game and he has failed miserably. 2 losses and a draw at Ibrox and drawing with Partick. There is nothing to suggest this inconsistency is going to end. If Pedro even had 10 years, he still wont improve our team. But he wont go voluntarily and there lies a financial headache to buy him and his followers out!

  3. I recognise the Loyalty amongst fans that makes us the support we are. But enough is enough with this guy…been obvious for months that many players uncomfortable wth him. His press conferences are a joke and you can hear in the questioning that the press are lapping it up and are being given ammo to hurt Pedro and us the supporters with . Wanted him to do well but it's not going to happen ..and the latest claim that Pena is in top three for fitness is the last straw. I want the Board to cut and run now even if we have to manage with what we have for now.

  4. Pedro MUST GO RIGHT NOW. Enough time has been wasted and it is clear that he is nowhere near to being good enough to manage Rangers. Although the senior Rangers players, paerticularly the Scottish ones, are not going to come out in public and say anything against their manager–it is very obvious that they just do not rate him–or his assistant–and their is NO GOOD REASON WHY THEY SHOULD. Michael O'Halloran let the cat out of the bag when he said that the training was inadequate, and that he had to do extra training himself in order to be fit enough!! When did you last hear any player complain that the training was not tough enough!! It is almost unknown for that to happen. I think that O'Halloran is right, as Rangers looked completely knackered long before the end of the Celtic game. Please get rid of him now. So what if they scrape through against Hamilton–that will not prove anything. Is anyone seriously suggesting that a 2-1 win against poverty stricken Hamilton will make everything all right?? I sure that the Board are not that deluded.

  5. The news this morning singling out Miller, hot on the heels of demonizing all the home grown players in the squad must surely be the end for the worst manager in Rangers history. This smacks of the Ferguson v Le Guen episode of the past. Sure he's not been in the best form this season but Miller is a winner and must despair at the less than average dross that Caixhina has imported. Or perhaps he lapped Pena in training and that's not allowed! Caixhina must be sacked now, and seriously whoever was responsible for his appointment should drop the decent thing and stand down with immediate effect.
