Pedro: “This is how we’ll deal with wind up merchants”

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha has surprisingly admitted that he is trying to prepare his players for dealing with wind up merchants on other teams.

Speaking recently following Ryan Jack’s successful appeal over Saturday’s red card, Pedro made the stark admission that he is trying to figure out how to control his players and stop them seeing the red mist when opposition tactics deliberately set about to cause friction.

Many fans have pointed to how Hibs manager Neil Lennon set his men up to try and ‘get amongst’ Rangers players, with Anthony Stokes guilty on more than one occasion of being incendiary, and how sadly the tactics did succeed; well manager Caixinha is aware of it and wants to instil discipline in his men, regardless of provocation.

He said:

I cannot control what the other players from the opposition teams are doing. I can just control mine. I hope that mine have that focus because one of the points we have definitely is to finish all the matches with 11.”

Very true, and it is wise to try and coach players in psychological aspects as well as physical ones, but it is his stark concession about the treatment his men will face that was the most enlightening:

“Look, the opponents will play the football they want. It’s not up to me to comment on that. I just need to understand what is going on and what type of opponent we are going to face and what type of behaviours might come from that opponent. It’s something we analyse and speak to our players about. We look at the way they play and the way they behave in order for us to be ready.”

Pretty astonishing for a manager to say this publicly; but Pedro definitely has a flair for being quite open with the press, so his revelation of this should not necessarily be such a surprise.

Hopefully whatever methods are being used in training will be effective come Saturday.

  1. While a return to a team on the park worthy of the aRangers jersey remains the absolute top priority, I am also desperate for a return to the days when we behaved with class and dignity off the field. Pedro's incoherent ramblings in the press are becoming just as embarrassing as his tactical ineptitude during the match. Caixhina is a big mouth, spewing rhetoric as empty as his trophy room – trying to deflect attention away from one abysmal performance after another. Easier to pander to the support by railing against pantomime villain and No 1 hate figure Lennon than to explain why his expensively assembled team were being out fought and outplayed by a newly promoted bargain basement Hibs team. Someone on this site yesterday said that we can't afford to get rid of Caixhina – well we certainly can't afford to keep him – that really will cost us!

  2. If we learn from players outwith Scotland. We have seen how they play the referee to have opposition players to get booked or sent off. For example, prior to Jack being sent off, if Dorrans rolled about 17 times holding his leg in pain, our players should have surrounded the referee demanding justice for the tackle itself, and get the Hibs player booked or sent off. This would have kept Jack on the pitch and probably would have went on to win the match. The rest of the worlds football does this to perfection, whether we like it or not, play the ref, not the player.

    • That's embarrassing for you to say. You're openly pleading for rangers to playact and cheat the referee, simply because you believe other teams do it.

  3. Dexter what game did u watch on Saturday?? Outplayed…..we had 10 men and we controlled the first 25 min they had a 10 min spell where they scored then the red card changed the game completely. Bargain basement maybe but the core of there squad has gelled over the past 3 seasons unlike ourselves at 5 weeks. If Jack stays on the park we win that game hands down, yeah everyone is looking for us too batter these teams but the reality is we are not there yet but with time we will get there. Get a grip and get behind ped, he is a foreign man in a foreign land and he is still adapting. He clearly has won over the dressing room and there is a vast improvement in the squad from last year so lets give it time, get behind the man and the team.

    • Sean we did control the game for 25 mins but the tide was slowly turning before the sending off. Hibs were starting to control the midfield and a big raw boy who was playing junior football two years ago was pulling our back four all over the shop. That's the game I was watching. The team is better than last year – because we have better players – but we're still not making the progress we should because we've got a crap manager! If you think Caixhina is capable of building anything long term at Ibrox then you are deluding yourself my friend.

  4. Regardless of the result tomorrow l still have no faith in Ped same as the bread man, l agree totally with Dexter, we cannot afford to keep him, cut our losses and get Murty in at least till we an either get Uncle Walter or Alex McLeish back, those guys know how to get the respect, guys who don't talk garbage and embarrass our club

  5. Ped is the biggest problem we have right now, I know I am a stuck record but fom Green boots to Porches!! Believe this, he would like to think he has the dressing room, but he is miles off, I give him a month at best to resign or be shown the door, heaven help us if the board are backing Ped, then again it was the current board that signed Warburton and now Ped… J

  6. Pedro is something else. I dont know where you lot got him but you need to get rid. This only goes one way the mans an idiot it may sound hardh but its true. I think we will all get until christmas to gut ourselves laughing at the mess hes making but i really hope u lot get someone decent in after and put a fight up in the league next season for the sake of scottish football

With ped the ned in charge im more worried about playin hamilton this season than you lot
