Motherwell v Rangers; Pedro’s Predicted XI
Article by: Ibrox Noise

So the season’s massive opener is
upon us – the schizophrenic pre-season is now officially at its end and Rangers
travel to Motherwell this weekend to open the competitive action in earnest.
Going by the feedback to a
previous entry, fans are insistent it is a must-win match already, something
Ibrox Noise shares entirely.

But who gets the call for Sunday’s
curtain raiser? What should Pedro Caixinha’s season-opening XI be?
We are now going to take you
through what we would select, and what we think Pedro will:
Would:
4-4-2 (no need to change this)
Foderingham in goal, back four of Hodson, Alves, Cardoso and Wallace. Midfield four of Windass, Dorrans, Jack
and Candeias, with attack being Miller and Herrera.
Reasons:
Goalie picks himself. Tavernier
has shown a new lease of life alongside Alves, albeit he is an injury absence after the foot problem he picked up against Watford so Hodson will start,
and Alves himself equally is a prime name on the team sheet. This also applies
presently to Cardoso and Wallace.
In midfield Windass impressed so
abundantly v Wednesday that he deserves to retain his place until/unless he
loses form. Centrally we can see no reason to switch from Dorrans and Jack, and
Candeias has got better and better throughout pre-season.
Up front Miller’s industry and
drive and goals are crucial, while Herrera’s energy and pressing compliment his
partner. A very hard-working pair.

Will:
4-4-2
Foderingham in goal, back four of Hodson, Alves, Cardoso and Wallace. Midfield four of Windass, Dorrans, Jack
and Candeias, with attack being Miller and Herrera.
Reasons:
Basically all the above except
Kranjcar’s craft and flair may just have been preferred to Windass’ energy on this
occasion, given how stubborn Motherwell might be to break down, but the Croat is absent through injury giving Windass the certain nod.
The only other possibility is
Miller benched in favour of an-all Hispanic striker duo in the form of Herrera
and Morelos. But given how little a role Morelos has had in pre-season this
seems unlikely.
Whoever Pedro selects, as long as
they justify their place and produce what we know they can, we will not be too
bothered who lines up. As long as we win, of course.
