Mystery over Portuguese target
 Article by: Richard Fillingham

Daniel Candeias is a 28-year-old Portuguese winger who is currently playing for Turkish club Alanyaspor and is on loan from his parent club Benfica. He has featured in 28 games and scored 4 goals in Turkey and it seems that Rangers are interested in bringing him to join Pedro Caixinha in Scotland.

He was signed in 2010, by Benfica and was immediately put out on loan to Portimonense from the town of Portimão and played 28 games for them, to give him a lot more first team experience, before he would get into Benfica’s superb top team.

Between 2011 -14, Daniel played in 85 games for Nacional who are a Portuguese football club based in Funchal, in Madeira and he enjoyed his time on the island and he scored 13 goals.

Although Candeias was still signed to Benfica, he was again loaned out. This time between 2014-15 he played for the German side FC Nürnberg and played in 16 games and scored 2 goals and also featured in 11 games for Spanish side Granada in two separate loan deals that season.

In season 2015-16 he was also sent out on loan to Metz in France and played in 28 games and scored 2 goals and now he finds himself playing for Alanyaspor in Turkey.

He is still signed to Benfica and is certainly very well-travelled and is obviously a decent player, but there is slight confusion over whether Rangers are interested or not.

That said, looking at his overall career, we cannot understand why Rangers would want him to come to Ibrox this season, unless our management team know something about him that we don’t. The last time we signed a player who had spent the majority of his career on loan really did not work out so well (Rob Kiernan).

Still, Pedro surely knows this guy well enough and if he thinks he can add something to Rangers, we go with it!

  1. Whilst some of other targets are impressive, this is a perplexing move if it ìs true.

I suggest that he may be a 3rd or even 4th option as braga beat us to the number one target already.

We would be far better trying to get more put of what we have than sign such an average player, certainly not going to close gap on Celtic with players like this.

  2. I think that E-Chief is only telling the truth about Daniel Candeias's CV not being good enough to shine for the Ibrox side, but as Ibrox Noise says, if Pedro knows this guy well enough to want to buy him then that is different. If he thinks he can add something to Rangers, and perform well for us in the SPL, then ok Pedro, go for him. On your own head be it!

  3. Great work so far by ted!! We are shopping in the Aldi section of the transfer market and the big man's still pulling out the transfers, Jack pena possibly dorrans as a midfield 3 and big Alves at the back….im one excited bear.

Get another striker a defender and hopefully this winger in and we will defo be good to go.

On the mckay subject, I truly believe we would be shooting ourselves in the foot if we get rid of him.my only complaint is his consistency. He is a young guy who will bulk up a bit so he isn't as lightweight and his talent I think is undeniable, he has the capabilities it's just upto ted to get that out of him on a regular basis,

All in all, so far so good in my book

  4. Watched some good footage of this winger on youtube.
He does look crap on the left wing given that he is right-footed, on his game …this fella looks the part.
He's fast and can cross a great ball from the right wing… can score goals too.

  5. I respect his opinion and happen to agree regarding the winger. It's this number 1 target signing for Braga I'm struggling with.

  6. Nuno Capucho had a better CV and he turned out to be mince. I trust Ped but am not excited by this particular signing
