Four players in two days? Rangers close to sealing deals; reports

Rangers are close to sealing deals for four new recruits over the next 48 hours, claim reports.

Manager Pedro Caixinha has been incredibly busy at work securing new acquisitions, and with Portugal’s Bruno Alves and ex-Aberdeen captain Ryan Jack already confirmed, it could be another four new faces similarly arriving by the close of play on Wednesday.

Yesterday, Pedro was spotted with two of the imminent arrivals in the shape of Benfica’s promising young forward Dalcio Gomes and Vitoria Setubal’s centre-back Fabio Cardoso, following days of speculation both were set to put pen to paper; however they look to be joined by UNAM’s striker Eduardo Herrera and Guadalajara’s Mexican international midfielder Carlos Pena.

That would take Pedro’s business to six players in a week, with the rebuild taking serious shape and a central defence and midfield which would be starting to look something like the final product.

Herrera’s record is really rather impressive; 2 in 3 at UNAM, one in two at Santos Laguna and almost one in two at Veracruz – this is a striker who really knows where the net is. Rangers have lacked a prolific goalscorer for years and Caixinha really rates this guy as the solution.

Meanwhile his potential team mate Carlos Pena’s move to Ibrox, touted for the past 10 days, only seems to have a permit appeal holding it up, so it should be over the line very soon indeed.

With Foderingham in goal, a pairing of Alves and Cardoso, behind Jack, Rossiter, Pena, and Kranjcar, with Dalcio and Herrera up front, Rangers start to look a more credible proposition; the fullback areas need some work, and a bit of tinkering still appears needed in midfield and attack, but it could well be getting there.

Just need to get some rubbish shipped out too now.

  1. It's lookin' more optimistic in general William… but… I'm not convinced that Kranjkar will ever be fit enough for the pace of Scottish football…his fitness at parkhead was a reality check. As for the boy… However, at long last we're building from the back and if we can get Dornan or McDonald into midfield, with Herrera up front It'd give us more dig and solidity. Not getting ahead of ourselves …but…we appear to be heading in the right direction.

    • If we play Niko in a free role off the striker, and don't ask him to track back, then we'll get the best out of him as he won't need to be fitted than everyone else. His best work is in the final third of the pitch anyway so play to his strength

  2. Seem to be heading in right direction impressed so far with "quality of signings" although will believe it when I see it with rossiter kranjcar featuring hopefully dorrans mcdonald will be signed bit of quality and fight into side

  3. I like many Rangers fans hope, both the Mexicans can get work permits, we have been knocked back before , remember Jardel? He ended up a fair player, but that lot in the east seem to be allowed to sign anyone disregarding their international status, with players from China, Nicaragua, South Korea, none of whom matched the criteria on signing.
I digress however; I feel if we can sign Dorrans or McDonald, I would still like to see a fit Naismith back at Ibrox, as I have said before here, he is a natural replacement for Kenny Miller. A new right back would be good too.
I agree with the summing up and Neil and Williams comments, let us hope it at least gives us an outside chance of silverware next season.

  4. Only thing stopping the Pena deal being the SFA 🙁

Wonder how they are going to stop us here????

  5. Thank goodness that all three of Rangers most talented stars have now returned to full training.

Niko Kranjcar, our talented Croatian internationalist, sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Jordan Rossiter was another player who was finally fit enough to resume full training today with all the others after suffering a series of recurring back, hamstring and calf injuries.

Lee Wallace had to miss the run-in at the end of last season after being forced to have stomach surgery.

Pedro Caixinha has already made two new signings with ex-Aberdeen captain Ryan Jack becoming one of the mainstays of our new midfield and Portuguese international centre half Bruno Alves to hopefully team up with his countryman and fellow defender, 23-year-old Fabio Cardoso who is already in Glasgow to sign.

Mexican International midfield maestro Carlos Pena, has agreed to sign for Rangers on the condition that he will be given a work permit.

The other Portuguese duo who both play upfront are the brilliant centre forward Eduardo Herrera, who has already played for Ped the Ted and he will be joined at Ibrox by another forward in young Dalcio, on a one-year-loan-deal from the Benfica B team.

Graham Dorrans and Kevin McDonald would also be great signings – if we can afford them.

  6. Hello Neil. The tactics and selections at Parkhead were beyond belief. The lack of pace all over the park was there for all to see.
Teams can get away with one player in a side these days, if he has other great assets that are needed. Even then, he must have really quick players around him.
For me Kranjcar was always only ever meant to be coming off the bench, when the opposition might be tiring a bit. Might still be the case. Time will tell mate.
Building from the back. At last. Best Wishes mate.

  7. Do you not think every player out there would jump at the chance of 10k weekly there is a list of hundreds if not thousands that have no club watch what we buy some may get through.
