Confirmed: Rangers star to leave at the end of the season

Sky Sources have this evening confirmed what other media outlets have speculated, that Clint Hill is to leave at the end of the season.

The 38-year old defender has faded from the starting XI in recent matches and is not thought to be in manager Pedro Caixinha’s plans going forward; he is out of contract following the end of season match with St Johnstone and has been eager to sign a new deal and extend his stay in Govan, but no deal has been forthcoming and his Rangers adventure would appear to be over.

Hill had a slow start at Ibrox by his own admission, but by around November had adjusted to the expectations of playing for Rangers and was one of the side’s stand out performers over the course of the campaign, his highlight of course being that sensational last-gasp equaliser at Parkhead.

But since new manager Pedro Caixinha came in, a number of players’ futures have been up in the air, and his was one of them. Fellow veteran Kenny Miller did get his new contract, but alas for Hill his time north of the border appears to be over.

  1. In all honesty he has made the correct decision. As much as Hill was our best defender this year, that just shows the sad state of affairs we find ourselves in. The biggest problem this summer is going to be getting rid of all the duds on long term contracts (thanks Warburton). Need to get rid of Kiernan, Waghorn, Forster, O'Halloran, Tav to name a few to free up some wages. We wont be able to bring in these "12" players talked about without getting rid of a few first.

    • Completely agree – it's a nightmare scenario, highlighted by the probability that the biggest transfer fee we recieve this summer, could well be the £500k Chelsea pay us for 15 year old Billy Gilmour. He says, as he reaches for the anti-depressants.

  2. good luck to big Clint…he gave his best for this club without really knowing the traditions and expectations of Glasgow Rangers…we all ime sure wish him well, based on the fact "once a Ranger always a Ranger"…Pedro is still on my doubts list but he has obviously got people to replace the ones he hooks…rashid sumaila looks a good replacement and I dont agree with neil mclean who says in a previous post "for me he's far too small and we need another wee guy like a hole in the head" well all I can say is I would never have said that about the great captain of Rangers BOBBY SHEARER…he was only 5foot 7inches but tackled in a similar way to sumaila…changing course I would like to say lets not get too confident of being "simply the best"for a wee while…We as a group of unique football supporters have done imo our very best to save our great club,,,and we have succeeded…take a bow fellow bears, that has been an incredible achievement…the vermin would have truly died in our position because they are all full of hate not the love we have for RANGERS,thats why they keep going on sites like IBROX NOISE sadly they are obsessed by there hate.

  3. I understand the continued "traditions and expectatilns" bit, but for example, what would you say about young Gilmour, what would you say about Miller. Here's the thing, we have a leader Mr King who does not really give a F about Rangers, it is all one big front, in time we will all find out his real motive / intention. Back to the article, and my reply, Clint Hill, did he try his best yes, did tradition matter to him, not really, Miller no doubts on the tradition bit, but in both cases, getting past their sell by date, merit in keeping both, merit in losing both, nae money or investment from King, so you toss a coin with just about every transfer, squad member, meanwhile in the East, they invest in youth just like we are doing with Gilmour, point again, we are going nowhere because we have no money to invest, sorry we have, Mr K promised he would/is but now we appear to not be even interested in youth under his wonderful stewardship.
