Defensive blow for Rangers? Another rookie set to step in for Old Firm

Rangers’ preparations for Sunday’s titanic clash at Hampden with Celtic have taken a potentially massive blow with increasing speculation goalkeeper Wes Foderingham has endured a training ground injury and will miss the semi final.

Foderingham, in terrific form and improving by match, has enjoyed a glut of shut-outs in recent weeks with some superlative saves and domination of his box, and has definitely been one of the squad members of last season to handle the step up, and his loss, should it be the case, would be a big absence at the heart of Rangers’ rearguard.

However, former Port Vale goalie Jak Alnwick was signed for situations exactly like these and would be ready to make his maiden bow in a Rangers shirt if called upon.

The 23-year old has not been required as yet by either Rangers’ ex-manager or Pedro Caixinha, but may find himself thrown straight into the deep end should his senior number one colleague fail to be fit in time.

More on this developing story as we get it, folks.

  1. Alnwick will dae an"Andy Dibble" job and we'll be fine.We are destined to hump this mob Foderingham or no!

  2. Jackanory couldn't make that up.. I'm not the biggest fan of WF but that said least he's played his part in the recent good form with clean sheets… We got rid of Gilks for Warburton to then go blow a 1/4 of a million on this JA – he better be up to the task is all I can say…

  3. I remember back in the day when Chris Woods was out injured for a Skol cup final and in stepped Nicky Walker and and we got one of the most entertaining matches in living memory and Cooper scored one of the best thunderbolt free kick you will ever see apart from Albertz.

    • Showing your age there lol… Chris Woods was a massive blow but you're right NW answered the call and did well… Super Cooper a true legend of a player still missed by all

    • I just mean I haven't seen it on the BBC or any of the papers and it's pretty big news. I went on Plymouth forums when we signed Alnwick and they all thought very very highly of him, so I am sure he can handle it, if it's true.

  4. Yeah Wes has saved us from the mire on quite a few occasions recently.
Chris Woods mention brings to mind the great keepers we have had…
My order of greatness is Andy Goram, Stefan Klos, Chris Woods, Allan McGregor.

  5. If real sad news but we can win this game at 6/1 your money i have £20 on that common win it this time.

  6. WF was rotten today. Must have kicked it clean out the park 5-10 times, looked nervous, gave the ball away repeatedly. Would have been better if not playing, but this story was, at best, really bad mind games.
