Sky Sources: “no contact with this 58 year old for manager vacancy”

Sky Sources have today confirmed Rangers have made no contact whatsoever with former manager Alex McLeish regarding the vacancy at Ibrox.

With interviews reported as taking place this week, there is said to have been zero interest in appointing the ex-Aberdeen, Hibs, and Rangers man who confirmed on Sky Sports last weekend week that he was interested in the job and it would be too hard to turn down.

Fans have been waiting anxiously for two weeks to find out who the next Rangers manager will be ever since the departure of the infamous trio, and McLeish had been highly mooted as interim till summer, although a great number of fans were divided over whether or not Eck would be the right man to return to the helm.

But Rangers’ board would appear to be disinterested in that idea and the search goes on for now regarding the next coach.

  1. Understand that some are not impressed by McLeish link BUT I am deeply alarmed by some of the names such as irvine and freedman. Big eck would be far better than either of them.

  2. He would bring back pride, passion and committment something that has been seriously missing in recent times. As he said he is a Rangers man and that with his previous stint would delight me bringing him back.

  3. I wouldn't read too much into the fact that they haven't spoken to big Eck, it is probably because they already know his qualities. However, from a personal stand point I think he would help get us second place but I have reservations if he is the man to take us forward beyond that.

  4. By the time we get a new manager we will be out of the top four and out of the cup as well, how many season tickets do you think we will sell for next season?

    • That's why the board are delaying… If new man comes in & does badly season ticks flop, so bring new manager in near end of season gives fans hope & sells more tickets… Its all about fans money at most clubs now

  5. It does look like the original favourites for our manager/head coach job, like alex mcleish, billy davies, derek mcinnes, tommy wright etc,are not going to be considered, for the job, which of course is our board of directors, perogative!!Reading between the lines,i would love frank de boer, but i really do think,he's well out of our reach!I think frank de boer is looking to the english premier league,as his next port of call!!I really do now think we should speak to garry monk, and if he's interested,we should wait until the end of the season to appoint him,as the new glasgow rangers manager/head coach!IMO he'd be a terrific appointment, for us!!Other names i would definitely consider for us,would be,gary rowett, alan pardew, marco silva(if only),tim sherwood etc!I would hope within the new set up that barry ferguson is considered in it,to some capacity! My choice for DOF would be paul mitchell(spurs),even before ross wilson(southampton)!Thoughts on these points fellow bears??

  6. Eck until the end of the season would be a good shout. Surprised Michael Laudrup is not mentioned – the Laudrup brothers would certainly give the fans a lift. Would also like to see Barry Ferguson come in to the set up with a view to being a future Rangers manager.

    • Better chance of the chuckle brothers under this regime, there will be no big name, medium name until there is a takeover…and that looks years off
