Who starts for Rangers?

Talk of Twitter, Facebook and pubs right now among Bears is Rangers’ starting XI tomorrow for the first league Old Firm encounter since 2012.

The hype around this match has reached fever pitch and rarely has an Old Firm clash been this eagerly anticipated, but one thing fans rarely seem to be able to agree on is who should don the Light Blue at Parkhead.

Some of the positions do select themselves; guaranteed starters are Foderingham, Wallace, Tavernier, McKay and possibly Miller, but picking the rest is proving a very tricky task.

Here is your Ibroxnoise XI, the team we think would stand the best chance at Celtic Park tomorrow.

Defence:

Tavernier, Senderos, Wilson, Wallace.

Quite simply it is the strongest defence Rangers have; Wilson is not fully fit, but Kiernan has been catastrophic for too long now, and it is no coincidence some of the most solid Rangers have been this season (Stirling away) did not feature him at the back. Wilson and Senderos is the only duo Rangers can come close to trusting.

Midfield:

Barton, Halliday, Forrester.

Rangers need a hard working, powerful, industrious midfield which will bleed for the club and be able to play a bit. Barton was signed for this kind of occasion, and must step up. Halliday was a monster at Hampden and knows what Rangers means, while Forrester is Rangers’ most in-form player this season and would consider himself dreadfully unfortunate not to start.

Attack:

Windass, Miller, O’Halloran.

You read that right – no Barrie McKay. The wee man was an absolute revelation last season but has been rank poor this campaign. Windass was wonderful in his few cameos and will be aching at the bit to play tomorrow – he will not last the 90, and that is where McKay will come in, to show he needs to start earning his place by coming on. Miller is a big-time player and always delivers on these occasions, while O’Halloran’s every appearance this season has impressed and his pace could really hurt Celtic’s back line.

The only caveat would be Kranjcar for Forrester to help feed O’Halloran with that right peg of his, but that is a weigh up.

  1. The only reason Kiernan is poor is some of his positional play and decision making isn't up to scratch but that's why Senderos is there to marshall him. He is however much better than Wilson at playing the ball out from the back. Every movement is as quick as it can be whereas Wilson takes ages on the ball. That's why Warbs rate Kiernan. Team for me will be:

    Fod

    Tav Senderos Kiernan Wallace

    Windass Barton Halliday

    Waghorn Miller McKay

Forrester, MOH & Garner off the bench as impact players

  2. I agree with text. Good choice, I think we need Waggy in there though, Miller is the man I think for centre! Bring it on!

If we as supporters don't know who will start then Rodgers sure won't either, this is possibly our biggest weapon!

    WATP

  3. Team for me as follows –

    FODDY

    TAV, SENDEROS, KIERNAN, WALDO

    BARTON, HALLIDAY, ROSSITER

    MILLER, McKAY

    WINDASS (if wags isn't ready)

Key points being solid three in middle of park with plenty bite and aggression. Windass is a goalscorer and can play up on his own, gives a good physical presence too. Bit of a wildcard that Celtic might not have prepared for…

  4. Shambles!! A hope kiernan doesn't kick another ball n if warbs wants to keep playin him he can do one anol. Was on here during the week sayin player shud n picked on merit not name kranjcar absolutely dross!! Was exhausted in first ten mins was like a little girl chasin a ball. McKay poor can't handle step up! N Barton Neva commanded the game done nothing!! N then there's kiernan!! Say no more!! Last year cumin out championship a blind man cud c we need 2 solid no nonsense CB who Cudnt see this warbs hes overloaded the team way midfielders n attackers n shop for a defender at the death of the transfer window he's not playin the best player but his favourites just not good enuf!! Bougy is a free transfer get him in pronto a don't want to see kiernan a name on that team sheet rest of the season!! Absolutely pathetic warbs!!

  5. We got what we got,we had to buy what we have we got rid of better players than we have now,so it must be those we got rid of wanted higher wages than those we have.
I just wish the game was next week now so we could show all of our players what is needed to win this game, but i was sick as you like at the team we have three players that is all we have and one is the keeper the rest you can ditch.
