What Rangers team will face Peterhead?

Mark Warburton has confirmed that tonight’s team to face Peterhead in the last 16 of the Betfred League Cup will see significant change to the one who were disappointingly held by Hamilton at Ibrox in the SPL.

Among those confirmed as starting are Matt Gilks, Lee Hodson, Jordan Rossiter and Joe Dodoo, those being four summer signings who have found their time in the team slightly limited thus far.

Less clear is whether former Accrington man Josh Windass will have recovered from his niggling injury picked up in the group stages of the same tournament, or whether his running mate Matt Crooks has neared fitness yet.

Further cloudy is whether Jason Holt will play a part, given his non-appearances since Motherwell then bench on Saturday.

But, it appears the team for tonight could be something close to the following:

Think this is close?

  1. Looking forward to seeing this forward line in action if that is the team. Dodoo, OHalloran, Forrester and Windass have plenty pace and very direct. Rossiter looked the business when he came on for that short period at the end of the game on Saturday. I feel for Kranjcar a bit as he clearly isnt match sharp but there is big expectation there, happy if he gets in from the start tonight to give him more minutes. I think it will be a hammering tonight, the team will want to make amends for the Hamilton result and the likes of forrester and windass attack ruthlessly when they get on the ball. Even OHalloran looks a different player so far this season, much more confident and positive.

  2. I think your selection is close but I don't think Windass is fit again yet and I think Joey will start as centre mid with Jason Holt but we'l see in a few hours time.

  3. I wud go with same back line but middle of park DM rossiter,Jst in front of him if fit windass left n holt right, up front ohalloran left wing forester right n dodoo up front. But on the other hand Barton n kranjcar cud b doin with game time We ll soon find out.

  4. This actually looks a stronger team than what we put out on sat. Hopefully having so many fast and fit guys around kranjcar his passing ability can be used instead of him taking on players himself. Though I think Barton will start in dm again tonight. Def exciting times with so many players of quality pushing for a place and no Nick law etc..

  5. Centre half and centre forward problem sorted in one.

Get Hill up front and punt the ball up to him at every chance.

WATP, the Barcelona football is back. Celtic we is comin fir yu.

    • Really ? A game against a third-flight team, and winning (even convincingly) means that it's 'Barcelona football' time, and that the problems are all sorted ?

That would be like Everton playing a team like Wrexham, winning easily, and declaring that the Premiership was going to be won as a result.

  6. Rob Peterhead are no mugs, they would give most SPFL teams a tough game.

Onwards and upwards, bring on Dundee, they must be bricking themselves!

    • That might be the case about Peterhead being no mugs, and yes, they did well last season in both league and cup (very well in cup), but the only relevant fact is that they are in the third flight.
Compare that to a match 24 hours later, where 2 Prem teams played each other, and the result was the same, 5-0 !
I may be mistaken, you may be right. Only the season will tell. But nothing I've seen, whether pre-season, cup or the one league match to date, says to me otherwise.

  7. Celtic with half a team missing killed Motherwell tonight.. I fear the worst when we inevitably meet them. They seem to be getting better with every game. We really need 3 or 4 quality signings. They will have £30m in the CL or maybe £10m in Europa with some progress and their manager wants at least 2 more. Even their sh!t players from last season seem to be on the up. Couple of injuries and we are hosed. King get your cheque book out we can't play part timers every week.

  8. If we drop any more points before we go to Parkhead in September we are goosed.

They are on the crest of a wave and Sinclair and Dembele are going to be great additions plus Rodgers wants another two in the door.

CL qualification will put them out of sight and on the way to 10 IAR.
