Biggest Rangers wins in history…

Despite having to climb through the ranks
again in recent years, Rangers remain the most successful club in Scottish
football history.

With that kind of long-term success of
course came a large number of dominating performances and blowout defeats that
remain club records to this day. These massive victories no doubt left
supporters of the Light Blues–and those punters smart enough to put a
wager
on Rangers whether it was online or in the bookies are feeling as
great as football can make one feel.
Here are some of the biggest Rangers F.C.
wins of all-time.

Biggest Cup Wins (Pre-20th
Century)

October 6, 1877: Rangers 13-0 Possilpark
November 10, 1877: Rangers 13-0 Uddingston
September 29, 1883: Rangers 14-2 Whitehill
September 13, 1884: Rangers 11-0 Whitehill
September 28, 1889: Kelvinside Athletic
0-13 Rangers
Scottish football has a reputation today
for having a large amount of disparity, but it’s nothing compared to how things
used to be in the early Scottish Cup days. From 1877 to 1889, Rangers defeated
five different cup opponents by 11 goals or more. casino 7 euro bez depozytu za samÄ… rejestracjÄ™
In the 1877-78 Cup, Rangers won their first
three matches by a combined 34-0. The first and third round matches were both
won 13-0 against now-defunct clubs Possilpark and Uddingston. Amazingly,
Rangers would somehow lose a fourth round replay to Vale of Leven after those
dominating victories.
A poor club called Whitehill was the victim
of Rangers’ next two big victories. In the 1883-84 Cup, Rangers won by a score
of 14-2, a scoreline they would come short of matching the following year,
winning against Whitehill only by 11-0.
Finally, Rangers would send the 1880s out
with a bang, beating hosts Kelvinside Athletic 13-0 in the second round of the
1889/90 Cup.

Biggest Home League Win:
Rangers 10-0 Hibs (1898)

Rangers’ biggest home win in the league
came two turn of the centuries ago in 1898. The fourth-to-last game of the
season, visiting Hibs was punished for setting foot in Kinning Park,
10-0. Alex
Smith led Rangers
with four goals. They would go on to finish the campaign
not only undefeated, but without a draw as well.
An honorable mention for biggest home
league win goes to Rangers 10-2 victory over Raith Rovers in 1967. A young lad
by the name of Alex Ferguson scored a hat trick in what is still Rangers’ best
domestic result since World War II.

Biggest Road League Win:
Abercorn 2-9 Rangers (1896)

The biggest road win in the top flight for
Rangers came against Abercorn in 1896. John McPherson, who scored 15 goals in
14 appearances that season, collected a third of his goals at this match in Paisley, Renfrewshire.
So demoralized were the Abercornians
(possibly) that they finished that season with just three points, and were
never to be seen in the top flight again.

Biggest Cup Win (20th Century
to present): Rangers 14-2 Blairgowrie (1934)

In 1934, Rangers would lift the Scottish
Cup after defeating St. Mirren emphatically 5-0 in the final. But for what the
match weighed in significance, it was far from the largest victory in the
club’s Cup run that season.
In the first round, Rangers and the
Ibrox welcomed in Blairgowrie
, who qualified for the Scottish Cup via the
Scottish Qualifying Cup. The vast difference in class allowed for Jimmy Fleming
to set what is still the Rangers record for most goals scored in a single match
with nine. But to their credit, Blairgowrie was the only club to score twice
against Rangers in the Cup that year.

Biggest European Win: Rangers
10-0 Valletta
(1983)

In what would be one of John Grieg’s final
matches as Rangers boss, The Gers hosted Valletta
in the first round of the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup. The first leg didn’t go so
well for the Maltese champions, losing 8-0 on their own turf.
If they feared the return leg in Glasgow would be even
uglier, they were right. David Mitchell scored in the first minute, and Rangers
never looked back, even
when it was 5-0 at halftime
.

Biggest Old Firm Win: Rangers
5-0 Celtic (1894)

Rangers has defeated Celtic by four goals a
number of times over the centuries, but way back in 1894 they punished the
visiting Celts by a scoreline of 5-0. Just one of 18 league fixtures in the
season, and the blowout wasn’t enough to prevent Celtic from winning the league
for the second-straight time.

  1. Very informative article. I will settle for Rangers winning 3 or 4 – 0 against any team in our first year back in the Premiership.
