Rangers & the BBC – enough is enough; no more chances

It did not all start with the infamous ‘Mad Men’ credit sequence, where then-manager Ally McCoist was depicted committing seppuku out of the window of his Ibrox office, but that incident certainly punctuates the strained ‘relations’ between Rangers and the BBC.

Of course, to be specific, it is the Glaswegian Pacific Quay’s branch of Auntie that is the centre of the bother, and at least one radio broadcaster has told me the number of Celtic and Aberdeen-minded employees at that office most likely is a significant contributor to the tone of the output; that was of course only his opinion, but no one, certainly of a Rangers persuasion can deny the BBC has ‘had it in’ for the Ibrox men for a lengthy spell, with their senior correspondent Chris McLaughlin especially guilty of targeting all things Light Blue for his latest sleazy story.

The reporter was famously banned for his conduct, with fans applauding the Club’s action, but after negotiations between representatives of both parties, it was agreed the ban would be lifted as long as the tone of reporting on Rangers was fair and impartial.

However, since that occurred, there has next-to-no apparent improvement in the BBC’s output – we are not demanding pro-Rangers bias, far from it. All that is justified is a level of content which reports facts as they are, rather than imbuing them with an agenda that clearly veers against anything Ibrox.

And with that said, McLaughlin has once again been barred from Ibrox, with his colleagues responding, like they did last time, by boycotting the Club.

I read a fine comment on Twitter which summed up the irony of this action, from Mr Baz Bowski:

“BBC boycotting Ibrox is like the a-hole that gets barred from the pub but shouts “I’ll not be back anyway” while being ejected”

The BBC are not wanted at Ibrox, in any shape, or form. Their consistently biased reporting and sniping at everything to do with the Club has tested enough fans’ patience and this latest ban surely has to remain permanent unless Pacific Quay can provide a public apology and clear admittance that the standard of their reporting in relation to Rangers has been poor and riddled with bias.

The BBC need Rangers far, far more than Rangers need them. There is no more room for any further chances, and this has to be the end of the line.

It is hard to even pick out individual examples of it all, such is the diverse nature of it, but one only has to read the nonsense from Tom English, evidently endorsed by his employers, to see the bias against the Club.

When Rangers were rounded on by all and sundry over the chanting v Hibs, English and others were among the first to roundly condemn it. Yet strangely refused to do likewise with the same fervour over the appalling behaviour from Celtic fans at Stranraer until much later on with a weak token gesture.

Enough is utterly enough.

You have no need to come back to Ibrox, BBC. You were never welcome there in the first place.

  1. And so say all of us. It has been going on for years now and is totally unacceptable. How the heads of BBC in London continue to ignore this clear bias from BBC Scotland is a major concern. No more BBC Scotland at Ibrox. We don't want any withering apologies, we don't want them. End of!

  2. F*k off and don't come back….. journalists !? Dont make ma laugh …bunch of hack clowns…the bbc an daily rhebel….ma 8yr old nephew writes more plausible stories….. the standard of so called journalism in these two anti Rangers , arse gravy spouting embarrassments to real professional writers is pathetic…..king should sue them..

    • The BBC has helped keep sevco alive this season by showing so many cup ties live , what other country would show a new football club from the lower league ,so often , so you should be thanking the BBC. HH

    • No wonder breeze block boulevard is empty your all on here! How sad. Your hatred for us makes us stronger we love it. Oh I can't wait

  3. The sooner the UK Government comes to its senses and, with the exception of the World Service, removes the BBC's 'State Owned Mantra. In Scotland it has long since been anti-Rangers and the only surprising thing is that The SNP see it as a mouth piece for the Unionist Parties! Quite amazing really for a TV Station that has consistently moved to the left for a number of years and is in many respects Republican in its bias, especially north of the Border. Get rid of the licence fee and sell off the Channel to the highest bidder!!!

  4. Here, here, brilliant comment ibrox noise, lets put our foot down and keep the bbc mclaughlin and co away from our great institution for good, let them see once and for all that the glorious glasgow rangers don't need them and will NEVER be messed about by anyone,'WE ARE GLASGOW RANGERS' don't let anyone forget it!

  5. The BBC (Broadcaster Behind Celtic) claim they will only report from Ibrox via agency reporters. I say we ban ALL reporters working on behalf of the BBC whether they are agency or not. I dont know how easy or legal that would be but its worth investigating. They need us far more than we need them. Watch them come crawling with tail between legs when they realise they cant report on the next old firm game at Ibrox….

  6. Get your blue tinted specs off.

Have you heard anything on the BBC as to why the 2012 LNS fine of £250k remains unpaid…me neither.

Have you heard anything on the BBC as to why no punishment has ever been handed down from the SFA for the operation of the illegal DOS……me neither.

Have you heard anything on the BBC as to why the SFA has taken no action against Rangers for playing dozens of 'improperly' registered players over a period of 10 years and more, which should have led to automatic title stripping. …….me neither.

Have you heard anything on the BBC about the fraudulent UEFA licence given to Rangers in 2011 despite the admitted DOS tax being unpaid and the part played in this by the Rangers placemen at the SFA…….me neither

The latter will turn out to be the biggest scandal in UK football, a club and a football authority colluding in a fraudulent application. Make no mistake it will be many years before Rangers ever play in Europe again as a result.

    BBC bias, aye right.

    • Have you lot said sorry yet for the shady things that went on ohh wait same thing happened at the BBC funny that eh

    • Remember sunshine what comes around goes around let's hope shite like can take it when it does ,I doubt it tho all you Celtic fans always had this big chip on your shoulder

    • @ Anonymous21 January 2016 at 12:35 – some of you guys are infatuated with this topic to the point it is creepy – assume the names Vincent Hill and Kenny Watson mean nothing to you for starters?

    • Headlines tomorrow on BBC
New club gets no dosh .
Yes teddy bear bears that's why this bag of pish hase to stop .

    • The only collusion pal is between lawless s.f.a.& Glasgow celik council.
      Opening ceremonies& dodgy land deals.

    • Oh my. The bheasts are in full consipracy theory mode.

I guess when you are unemployed you have tons of time to think of poor arguments.

  7. Has there been any mention on the BBC about Rangers sell on cut from Naismith's move to Norwich…..should be about £2m, that should sort the O'Halloran and Diarouga fees.
Anyone know what the sell on percentage was……there was one surely?

  8. Fair enough – I assume then all the aid they have given you in the form of televising many more of your cup games than necessary is unwelcome as well?

  9. While I do question the impartiality of the BBC, do you really think the fans are best served by the sycophantic Scottish media ?
Much as I hate to say it, but we NEED reporters who ask awkward questions. Which is certainly not happening now, whether by CJ, KJ, or any others. They are the ultimate in copy/pasting from L.5 press releases.
Remember, just because someone tells you everything is wonderful, it doesn't mean they are your friend.

  10. The BBC is a strangely unaccountable animal. Go to the daily Record where they are trying to reign back a bit to appease Rangers fans after an extended kicking. Problem is that they realised too late that their constant sniping and biased reporting hurt their figures hard in a declining industry.

I guess it just boils down to editorial decision making. Rangers are the most hated club in Scotland as are Liverpool in England just because of the sheer dominance they enjoyed. It seems natural that editors would base reporting bias on what they think is a majority view. People nowadays like nasty, finger-pointing, accusatory reporting otherwise it wouldn't exist. People love a figure to hate and it's just unfortunate that Rangers have become that figure. Just a fact of life but the perpetrators have to accept the loss of revenue from what has become known as 'the blue pound' and weigh it against the remaining revenues generated by their editorial decisions.

Bottom line is if it gets you worked up find somewhere more appealing to spend your time. Ignore trolls, private or sponsored, and they will get fed up and go find another target.

  11. Well wether it is the Scottish branch or not I want no one at Ibrox in any shape or form that is associated with Jimmy saville, we all know what stadium Jimmy used to frequent on his visits to scotland that's correct the peado dome with his good friend cardinal O'Brien says it all really, can you feel their blood boiling reading this as they know it, we know it & big jock certainly knew it

  12. In response to the comment from the smelly septic fan defending the BBC.
You are completely deluded ..fake uefa licence, unregistered players, please get your facts right before coming onto OUR site and spewing your site.
The reality of the situation is like commented previously….the BBC have had it in for us for many years, not as a company but thru the individuals that work there who are mainly of the sheep shagging and kiddy fiddling persuasion….only proven by how little bad stories are reported on about septic by them, no matter what happens at the piggery it's always glossed over.
Yes we've had our moments as a club nd as fans just like every other club in football but no longer shall we take this blatant bias towards what is the most decorated club in world football,we are rangers, super rangers, no one likes us we don't care, we are the people,in warbs we trust!!

  13. BBC have over-stepped their play..and have been red-carded and rightly so, if they cant get the message that,bad-mouthing the GREATEST team in Scottish history, the Mighty GLASGOW RANGERS !! then enjoy the ban….you got what you deserve,oh and hopefully the worms that have caused this problem..will get fired….WATP…!!!

  14. You realise that banning the BBC is going to have an impact on income as they routinely cover every cup game at Ibrox, no matter the opposition.
Given that over the last few years every cup tie has been been pulled out of the hat as a home tie, surprise, surprise.

Don't bite the hand that feeds you……another couple of home draws and hey ho down payments for Yaya Toure and O'Halloran, thanks to the Beeb.

  15. For the many obsessed selik sapporterz on here the BBC televised more of our games because they get more than double the viewing figures with Rangers despite ra selik being ra biggest club in ra world and having the self proclaimed best supporterz in ra world. You would think that a club bigger than man u would do better. It must cut u diddies to the core that we have bigger attendances than ra bhoys in the division below, I wonder what you would have, 10 thousand I'd say.

  16. Smelltic would not have survived what we
went through. Remember they were only
half an hour away from exsisting before
Mc'Cann saved their sorry sore arses !

  17. ok heres the deal then, Everyone of us has access to the internet ALL of us [and i believe thats quite a few] mail the BBC & complain, Now if we are as P**D off as we say we are then they will/should respond, Ibroxnoise could you organise some sort of count of how many mails are sent?? Otherwise were all just a but of whingers ona Rangers site!!

    • I sent an email complaint asking why the coverage was so biased 2 years ago. The reply was there is no bias. It gets u nowhere. The organisation is riddled with tims as is Scottish politics. We have sat back and let it happen. They have a massive chip on their shoulders and are taking us on like the slimy bastards they are. Behind keyboards and in the name of political correctness. And don't tell me football and politics should be kept apart it's a tribal game for working people if you don't like it watch rugby.

  18. We should just stop paying the licence fee!
Could gers not have a set up where they show games by subscription where fans who cannot go can pay to watch & the money goes to club funds ? Can anyone inform me.

  19. The SAVILLE support should demand their club pay the living wage before taking the
    MORAL high ground.
brother wallfrigged would turn in his gravy ?
    LOL.

  20. I would have to agree with you. With all the corruption going on behind the scenes over the past few years, reporters who are not afraid to upset the apple cart can only be a good thing.

  21. Hi frankly lets get rangers up and running and once we get free off all the nonsense like mike Ashley and his messiah tactics they,ve all been shown up to be vultures and as far as green and whyte go I think an example should be made of them and from where I stand the tax cases were a fiasco also I feel that the legal profession has to answer to the law because if the loans were illegal I think the law companies should be held accountable to the public and be pursued by all parties for compensation for giving unlawful advice to clients etc that does,nt happen too often does it!As far as bias goes nothing about celtic fans surprises me !lets just put it down to strength of belief in there faith which has also been tarnished by their own actions ..no winners there either..life has changed for the worse here that's it in a nutshell.

  22. I have always been a bit suspicious of some BBC reporting but in the past few months they have gone daft with some really unbelievable bias against disliked or vulnerable people or public institutions ( if your name is Jeremy for instance )–McLaughlin is incapable of any objectivity regarding Rangers and should remain banned apology or not

  23. I WAS AMAZED WHEN THE BBC TOOK A TRIP BACK TO A STORY FROM OVER 10 YEARS AGO TO DIG UP DIRT ON RANGERS, COULDN'T BELIEVE MY EARS WHEN THE SCOTTISH BBC SPORTS SECTION ON TV BROUGHT UP A CHAMPIONS LEAGUE GAME AGAINST OSAZUNA, GOING THAT FAR BACK TO MAKE A CONNECTION TO CHANTING AT THE HIBS GAME. THE REPORTERS WORDS (ITS NOT THE FIRST TIME THE GLASGOW CLUB HAS BEEN INVOLVED WITH SECTERIAN SINGING ) WTF THE GREAT UNWASHED ARE AT IT WEEK IN WEEK OUT FROM THROWING SH*T IN A BAG AT OTHER SUPPORTERS TO FLARES AND BIGOTED SINGING AND IT DOESN'T GET A 30 SECOND MENTION AND SWEPT UNDER THE RUG EVERY TIME, NO SURPRISES THE PLACE IS INFESTED WITH THEM. THE FACT OUR CLUBS WAS A VICTIM OF A MASSIVE FRAUD AND NO HELP WAS FORTH COMING, JUST BACK STABING AND CONDEMNATION FROM ALL NO MENTION OF LEAGUE RECONSTRUCTION EVERY YEAR THE RANGERS WHERE BANNISHED TO THE LOWER LEAGUES NOW WE LOOK GOOD TO DEFO COME BACK AND DUNDEE UNITED WHO WHERE VERY VOCAL ABOUT GERS BEING PUNISHED ARE PISH AND GOING DOWN THE LEAGUE RECONSTRUCTION IS TOP OF THE AGENDA. ABERDEEN AND MOTHERWELL WHERE ALSO SAVED FROM THIS FATE TO KEEP THEM IN THE TOP FLIGHT WHAT A F**KING JOKE, AND THEY SAY THERE NOT BIAS !!!! EVEN THE HEAD OFFICES OF THE SPFL HAS LAWELL CREEPING UP AND DOWN THE CORRIDORS EMPIRE BUILDING AND PICKING A CHOOSING WHAT WOULD SUIT CELTIC WEE ANN BUDGE IS A BREATH OF FRESH AIR AND THE MUPPETS AT HAMPDEN KEPT HER OUT WHAT THEY GOT TO HIDE WHY WAS RANGERS AND HEARTS GAME MENTIONED AGAIN THIS WEEK AND THE HAMPDEN MUPPETS INVESTIGATING WHEN THE CUP GAME WITH CELTIC WAS A ZOO AND THE USUAL CELTIC REPLY WE WILL BAN WHO IS RESPONSBLE F**K OFF ?

  24. I am no lover of either side of the old firm or indeed Aberdeen but I think a little look nearer home might be helpful as far as spin is going .What happened to Dave Kings Statement in may when declaring his ongoing investment depended on fit and proper process being completed ."now that it has been cleared I am in a position to proceed and expect that to happen quickly . Sadly Mr King cant even pay the wifi bill . Oh not forgetting oldco He said: “We have a vision going forward where I would like to see us taking Oldco out of liquidation and putting assets back into Oldco – putting Rangers back into the oldco. Oh and in march 2015 Dave King has insisted that he has lined up a Stock Exchange nominated adviser for Rangers ahead of him assuming control at Ibrox.
