Rangers defender confirmed out on month-long loan

Rangers have today confirmed Academy product Craig Halkett, 20, has been farmed out on a month’s loan to Berwick Rangers, in a possibly surprising move given Rangers’ lack of overall defensive depth.

Halkett, who has experience under Barry Ferguson’s Clyde during a previous loan spell, is reaching the age where he requires first team football in order to develop as a player, and manager Mark Warburton and Academy head Craig Mulholland evidently feel the youngster required a loan spell away from Ibrox to help give him that push.

He will be available for selection immediately under his new manager for the next four weeks, Colin Cameron, and Rangers will hope his education at Shielfield Park will see him better equipped to make a future push for Rangers’ first-team squad in 2016.

Furthermore, given Warburton’s admission today that only one or two new players will be brought in during January’s transfer window, Halkett may see an opportunity or two arise on his return.

  1. It's nothing to do with our superb editors point but I'm glad Scot Allan isn't getting a game for the scum, we bears would have welcomed him and the hat would have improved him as a player and build his profile too hope he has regrets oh and seen Gazza at Motherwell he is pure brill nice bloke and world class player and came to our club a multi millionaire but still gave 100% for the blue jersey, can the real Scot Allan look on, as the hat said we only want players who will give 100% for the bears WATP
