Has Ally McCoist ruined his legacy?

With reports over the past 24 hours claiming former Rangers manager Ally McCoist will be settling his contract roughly three months early, debate has risen over the merits or otherwise of the situation among fans once again.

McCoist and his antics remain a topic for feverish division, with a great many supporters choosing to focus solely on his brilliant playing days, his record-breaking playing days, while others cannot look past his absolutely appalling management reign and subsequent Gardening Leave.

The question is, in the eyes of almost all those fans, will an early settlement of his contract restore his honour and retain his playing legacy among supporters, or will his sustaining a wage beyond March (and the appointment of the new board) continue to blight him and punctuate everything he stands for?

It is indeed very sad how McCoist has ultimately turned out; my own personal view is that I cannot focus solely on how great he was as a player, I have to focus on the contradiction between being a True Ranger and taking a wage for doing nothing. Surely a true blue would have walked away and once the Club was in the right hands severed the contract?

McCoist did not – he was an incredible player, and that player rightly deserves to be remembered as a hero, but unfortunately his conduct post-December (and even some earlier) horribly corrupts it, however much we pretend otherwise.

Ally McCoist is now two entities – the wonderful player who won almost everything, and the appalling manager whose greed ultimately ruined his reign.

But of course, readers may disagree. And here is your chance to do so.

    Ally McCoist, Pundit Great.
It will be a long time before we hear about what really went on over the last four years and what Ally had to endure, as far as his legacy is concerned it is intact. Ally fought the board daily during his tenure, his battles with Green weren't exactly hidden and his comments when Green was finally axed weren't disguised. Until everything is resolved he cannot tell us what happened during those times and that must be so frustrating as he has to listen and read all the personal attacks about him without being able to respond.
SUPER ALLY, was, is and forever will be
    A R A N G E R S L E G E N D . . .

  9. its time to get yourself back into the stand at ibrox your a member of the rangers family,,super ally for everrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr,, WATP,

  10. Ally was my hero…. BUT he should have offered to terminate his contract as soon as King won the club back from the leeches. He never….and continued to draw on his monthly salary. He will never be short of money and he will have no lack of job offers (in TV) so why he decided to sit tight and let his contract run down baffles me to be honest. Im sad to say i no longer consider him as a hero.

  11. McCoist knocked us back twice as a player and also refused an offer from Big Eck to join the coaching staff – a Rangers man, my arse!!!!!!There will be some reason for his agreeing to terminate his employment – a TV deal, book or whatever. OK, he scored a lot of goals and for that we are all grateful but he was a woeful manager and while not everyone can make a good manager he should have realised it was not working and walked away with his reputation intact instead of just wanting to fill his boots.

  12. you sad, sad, sad, wegie bastards…stop attacking one of glasgow rangers biggest heroes… leave superally alone…time will tell and you will all be exposed as the fannies you are…he has not been able to control the series of events that have led to these accusations…soon we will all know the truth, and my money is on mr. mcoist to come out smelling of roses…stop running the club down…get together and help to push our club back where we should be.

  13. Camelonman, he may not have been able to control all the events, However he is able to accept a position with BT sport before his gardening leave was over, & that strikes me a wee bit cynical, Ali always will look out for number 1 I can assure you, He was a great player for us as a manager not so good, i know think its time for us to bid him goodbye & get on with more important things, like winning football matches,
