Andy Murdoch goes out on loan

Andy Murdoch goes out on loan

As brought to you exclusively by here and here, Rangers have finally let Andy Murdoch go out on loan to Cowdenbeath.

The 20-year old was immediately demoted by Ibrox boss Mark Warburton to Ian Durrant’s unders when the new manager took charge, and with deadline day upon us the decision has finally been agreed with the Blue Brazil to allow the defensive midfield anchor get some first-team football.

Many fans were puzzled by his demotion to the unders, but given 8 wins from 8 and stellar displays all round, those questions are being reduced given the boss’s impeccable judgement to date.

With Cowdenbeath’s former manager being a former Rangers player in Jimmy Nicholl, relations with that Club were especially productive previously and the current boss Colin Nish will be delighted to have a player of the quality of Murdoch on his books to call upon, even if only for a season at the most. Early information suggests the loan is till January.

  1. Murdoch was an excellent player for us at the tail end of last season if we are developing young player for other teams Spurs/Arsenal then why not keep him at Ibrox and develop him .The loanees will return to there respective clubs better players,so why not our own ?

    • Because Warbs has said the young players must be better than we already have or are able to bring in. At the moment Halliday and potentially Eustace occupy the DM role. A year at another team where he'll play upwards of 30-40 games as opposed to being on the bench every week at Rangers is obviously better for his development surely? In Warburton We Trust.

  2. The fact that he has gone to Cowdenbeath says it all – dropping down a Division to get first team football. Suprised that the likes of Livingston or Dumbarton were not interested in taking him on. Our last loan to Cowdenbeath – Hemmings was deemed surplus to requirements after he returned. Anyway good luck to him and maybe, just maybe he will return with a vigour that will propel him back into the reckoning.

    • I'm sure out last loan to Cowdenbeath was Calum Gallagher. Done a good job for them and a player I thought had more of a future at Ibrox. As for dropping a division, we have taken players that are at Premiership clubs and they have no problem with that. Like Warbstow says, it's about a good football education from an academy and then serving an apprenticeship.

  3. Willie, I can only assume it's because MW doesn't think he's ready for the Rangers first team, but that regular games will bring him on to the level where he is.

  4. I do think he should be kept and given game time. he will do well at Cowdenbeath but i think he will do better with us, Cup games would be excellent for him

  5. I agree with MW on this, he looked far better last season than maybe he was due to the lackluster displays of last seasons dross. We have lots of midfield options and he needs a full competitive season, I think he will return stronger and wiser, cup games are never enough to improve consistency and the drop to the u20's wasn't ideal at his stage of development. Good management, if his displays with the blue brazils are good enough he will return in January depending on injuries and Eustace's fitness. The ball is firmly at Murdoch's feet to prove his worth to this ALL improved Rangers team.
