Rangers step up efforts to sign Spurs pair

Rangers’ on-going saga with
Tottenham Hotspur looks set to intensify this week with reports manager Mark
Warburton is going to step up efforts to capture both 19-year old striker
Nathan Oduwa and fellow sub-20 year old midfielder Harry Winks.
Both of these youngsters have
been heavily linked with Rangers this window, and with Scott Allan becoming
less and less likely now that Hibs’ boss Alan Stubbs has planted a six-figure
sum on his head, U-19 England international Winks would be an excellent
acquisition in his place with Warburton wanting one more quality midfielder
(outwith John Eustace) to complete the engine room at Ibrox.

The Spurs Academy graduate
tellingly failed to make the Tottenham bench for the opening English
Premiership trip to Old Trafford, and given he was firmly there at Goodison for
the final match last season, this could be a subtle hint a deal is in the
offing. Whether it is permanent or loan is unknown, but speculation points to
loan.
And Oduwa has emerged in recent
days as reported on various outlets, and while as yet failing to score a senior
goal, Rangers’ lack of striking options and his potential under a manager like
Mark Warburton makes him an attractive proposition. Like Winks, this would most
likely be a loan.
Rangers, ideally, would hope to
complete these by the end of the week.

  1. Both these boys would be very welcome additions to our squad. The young lad Oduwa will be a fantastic signing. He is going to be a star. I hope we push this over the line. Oduwa Waggy and the more and more impressive Mckay will do nicely. Check out some videos of these young guys.

Happy days for the bluenoses 😀

  2. The two spurs youngsters oduwa & winks would be good additions to our squad but imo the most important signing for our starting 11 has to be a defensive midfielder who'll sit in front of kiernan & wilson and that will undoubtedly give us that extra protection with the way warburton has us playing ie.our defenders keeping a relatively high line so john eustace would be a very good & must signing for those reasons,it will give us that extra protection as the eustace signing will help shore up where we've lost goals already this season with the opposition playing the straight through ball into space between our centre halfs

  3. God to see, these 2 can give us that wee extra push. We defo need a goalscorer and hopefully Oduwa can give us that although he hasn't scored at senior level, I saw him on You Tube and he looks electric, similar to Sone Aluko. Winks must have something to be on the Spurs bench.

    • I keep hearing folk say we need a goal scorer – we have scored 12 goals (shared among 7 players) in 3 matches. I would have thought that strike rate to be perfectly acceptable – OK, would be nice to have a 20/25 goal a season player but this type tend not to be able to perform in the high pressing, inetrchangeable system that Warburton obviously favours.

  4. 19 Year old, Nathan Oduwa plays as a midfielder or striker for Tottenham Hotspur and played regularly for the England U17 & 18 national teams. He joined the Spurs academy in July 2012 and played for the club's Under-18 team, making 20 appearances and scoring 10 goals during the 2013–14 season. He signed a 4 month loan period contract with Luton Town until the end of the 2014–15 season and played in eleven of their league games in League Two, but never managed to score a goal with them. I personally would prefer W & W to sign a more prolific goalscorer than to be forced into giving him playing time as part of the loan deal with Spurs. However, Harry Winks could be a different prospect as he is another 19 year old product of the Tottenham Hotspur youth system. During the 2013-14 season, Winks regularly trained with the first team squad and he was named on the senior bench for the first time for a Premier League tie against Liverpool on 30 March 2014. On 27 July 2014, Winks signed a first professional contract with Tottenham and made his first team debut on 27 November 2014 in the UEFA Europa League against FK Partizan in a 1–0 home win, replacing Paulinho after 87 minutes, and had six touches of the ball, all accurate passes. On 6 July 2015, Winks signed a new contract with Tottenham until 2018, with the option of an additional further year. When you consider all the facts about young Harry, I think that this could be a good year long loan deal, as he also played regularly for the England U16, 17 & 18 national teams, so he clearly has the potential to be a great player.
