Darren McGregor leaves Rangers by mutual consent

Rangers have confirmed today that out-of-favour defender Darren McGregor has departed Ibrox by mutual consent.

The former St Mirren and Cowdenbeath stopper was not in Mark Warburton’s plans and the new manager had confirmed pre-season that Danny Wilson and Rob Kiernan would be his first choice central defence pairing.

In a statement the Club said:

“RANGERS can today confirm that Darren McGregor has left the club by mutual consent.

The central defender spent a year with the Light Blues and earned the club’s Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards for 2014/15.

McGregor made 50 appearances in total in his single season at Ibrox, scoring five times.

Darren leaves with the club’s best wishes for a successful future.”

This news comes as no surprise given his total absence from first-team affairs since Warburton took charge, and it seems the 30-year old did not fit into the new manager’s philosophies.

He is wished the very best by all connected with Rangers.

  3. One of the few players to do well despite the appalling coaching under McCoist and McDowall. Sorry to see him leave but hope he finds a decent quality SPL team.

  4. Decent player but not comanding in the air and you need to be to be a centre half……cheers Darren wish u all the best….

  5. one of the better players last season always gave 100 percent ,good luck to you where ever you go WATP .LOL.

  6. Held us together at times last year. Committed to the cause, personally I think a better CB than Kiernan. But the Magic Hat knows better than me, so he must see something in Kiernan, or intends to replace him with Ball and have Kiernan as his backup.

Whatever, good luck to Darren. Hope you get a regular game somewhere, we will remember you fondly for your efforts last year.
