Dave King: “We want an SPL Rangers immediately”

13

Dave King has reiterated his
earlier stance from some weeks ago that his transfer policy for this summer
window will prioritise the signatures of almost ten players who are SPL
quality.
With the eleven out-of-contract
players gone, King has confirmed Rangers’ approach will be to sign around seven
players immediately capable of playing at a higher level than the Championship,
unlike the squad who have now departed Govan.

He said:
“The mandate to the manager is going to be
to try and add probably six or seven quality players who are capable of playing
immediately in the Premiership.”
Whether these players will
include those currently plying their trade in Scotland’s top flight, or those
who have been released from teams like St Mirren (a move for Gregg Wylde is not
impossible) or to nab some of Hearts’ ex-players (Danny Wilson is now a free
agent), the chairman clearly believes the way forward is bringing in players of
a distinctly higher grade than those who left.
He continued:
“What we are not going to do is make a
decision based on winning the Championship this season. Every single investment
decision will be what we regard as being Premiership quality players. So it is
very important that we not only get comfortably get through the Championship
this season, but that we have a squad of players at the end of the season that
can be further augmented in the next close season to make sure we go up to the
Premiership with a squad capable of competing.”
With half the first-team squad
now gone, and the remaining half barely any more impressive in recent
months/years, the search is on to rebuild the squad into something far more
like Rangers quality than what currently is on offer.

  1. It will be interesting to see who ends up RIFC. This transfer policy seems no different from the ones in place over the last few years. Premiership quality players did not work last season. Perhaps if the players were younger and hungrier. It will be a challenge. Any talented player will not want to play in the second tier of Scottish football. It can stall their careers ( look at some of the current and departed RIFC players). Transfer policy aside, it surely cannot be justified that finance is not an issue. This will surely end up in (more) tears.

  2. Strikes me that Mr King had a worried looking face at the news conference, it is what he did not say instead of what he did say that is worrying for me. Almost like "why am I doing this", perhaps it will all work out, first request , fill the stadium by paying your season ticket, somhave all the promises of substantial funding gone, he can only deride Ashley/Sports direct, criticise previous regimes including the one he was involved in, still think he ismonly here to find a way to get his lost millions back and has no intention of investing, where is your promises Mr King, RFC NEED YOU J

    • You are 100% spot on, Body saying the opposite of the words coming out his mouth. Shifty.

  3. "Until we are back in Europe, the television money is non-existent, and until we sort out the Sports Direct deal, then merchandise revenue is almost non-existent. Why go on about Europe when the first job is getting into the SPL

  4. I agree that King needs to stump some actual cash up… so far all I have heard is how awful everyone else was and how the fans once again need to stump up season ticket money to provide a transfer budget.. no the 'investment' we were all hoping for so far..

    • To stump up the actual cash, Rangers need to sign a player. You want King to buy you players before the manager is appointed?

  5. The guys already stumped up 16 million to rescue us from the Easdale's and Ashley etc. , of course he's going to need other investors to help out as well . What happened to the American friend of David Robertson's who said he'd still be willing to join the consortium and invest heavily. Has he been approached ? Give King and the bears a chance , it'll take time but they'll get there .

    • 100% wrong, Mr King has stumped up zero so far, not a penny, where did you get your garbage £16m from. J

  6. we as rangers supporters must help the new board get us back up to the top,,in king our trust,,watp.

  7. TOMORROW WILL SHOW ASHLEY THIS IS THE RANGERS SUPPORTERS CLUB AND WE ARE NOT GOING TO GIVE HIM OUR MONEY TO FILL UP HIS PIGGY BANKS, WE MUST GET BEHIND THE BOARD AND GET THIS FAT SHIT HEAD OUT OUR CLUB,,
