This is the painting which has divided Rangers fans

In a dramatically controversial
move, Rangers yesterday sought to honour Neil Alexander, Lee McCulloch and Ally
McCoist by installing a new painting at the top of the Marble Staircase
depicting the three (and Lee Wallace) as “The New Pioneers” in a homage to “The
Gallant Pioneers”.

The painting, by artist Helen B
Runciman, was originally commissioned in 2012, but in a possible own-goal
Rangers have elected to mount it now, to a mixed response from some fans who deem it
in extremely poor taste to compare the likes of McCulloch and Alexander (one
siphons £72K a month, the other took Rangers to court and won) to the legendary
Moses and Peter McNeil.
With McCulloch already in the
Hall of Fame, a move which has become increasingly unpopular given the
luminaries already in there, this is another criticised act from Rangers,
which unfortunately undermines the much more valid decision to have one of
Sandy Jardine displayed at Argyle House.
Take a look for yourself and
decide if this is a painting you would deem suitable and justified.

  1. Not for me. I understand the sentiment behind the painting but of the people mentioned only Wallace and Neil Alexander has any credibility with me. That said, you cannot draw comparisons with the original Gallant Pioneers. It is now becoming very clear that McCoist and McCulloch were motivated as much, if not more, by the Financial Rewards as they were by Rangers. McCulloch was well over the hill and could never have merited the same wage anywhere else and McCoist was never a manager in a million years and would have been better off staying as a comedian on TV

    • Rangers GREAT!! Maybe you are a TV supporter. He is spending our season ticket money for sitting on his ample, useless arse. If you are a genuine gers fan please waken up to reality. We really need to smarten up to these bandits.

    • So is greg a diddy aswell because he never done much as manager but stayed on behind the scenes at the club. Some people need to get over there self importance. Super ally all the way.

  2. Not for me either. Wallace deserves recognition for staying loyal when he could have moved on, but McCulloch and Alexander, while we're grateful to them for standing by us at the time, have been well rewarded for the parts they played and that should be that. As for Ally's time as manager, it was mostly abysmal and he too was not only handsomely paid, but even now continues to take a large salary from us for doing his garden. Definitely nothing to be commemorated as far as I'm concerned.

  3. cannot believe some of the comments, the club is not where we want it to be but the guys featured in the picture no matter how much they got paid stayed when others walked and allowed us to remain a club- short term memories are too prevalent among some of the support nowadays, did you moan and whine when jig was scoring on our way up?having a bitch at Neil because he had his legs done by a guy we hate and rightly so looked after himself- ffs this just shows how far our standards as a club and a fan base have sunk, we lauded these guys for staying when we went down after the likes of naismith etc left us- we should never forget this period in our clubs history or the guys that stayed and done their best for us.

    • well said,, some comments by so called rangers fans just make me wonder how they even bother to support the club,,we should all be behind the club now to help get us back to the top,, watp.

    • Stop this over-emotional crap and open your eyes. McCoist stayed because he was handed discounted shares from Green and an £800,000 salary. Both have shown that they don't give a shit about Rangers and treat the fans with contempt. FFS if we don't waken up to the old pals act we will never move forward.

  4. Quite unbelievable that this painting didn't go straight in the bin. I have no respect whatsoever for three of the four in that painting… and theres no prizes as to who the three are.

  5. Robbie Haddle, get a grip of yourself. The reason they stayed was due to the ridiculous, exaggerated and unwarranted wages they were given!!, McCoist is still fleecing the club even after the new board was elected, he is nothing but a wage grabbing parasite, a disgrace to the jersey and they last thing I would even think about,,is commend him for dragging our club to its lowest ebb in history,, 3 years and what is his legacy?, nothing!!, a team that was bought whilst getting rid of our youngsters. After this season is finished, those players are out of contract and what do we have?, Nothing, McCoist ruined us with his inability to manage, bring youngsters through, nearly didnt make the play offs, let alone not winning the first division. Your having a laugh when you said McCulloch scoring again 2nd and 3rd opposition?! and we should applaud that?! The games were so terrible to watch, we were awful,,ffs, Alexander took us to court, yes, money wasnt his motivation with Rangers eh?! I'd have been happy if it was just a picture of Wallace, he is the only only one that would have truly walked into any team, but chose Rangers, he is the only one I'd give utmost credit. The rest have been money grabbing parasites. McCoist is a swindler as is McDowall, who are still picking up wages for nothing. He better not dare and come out and say he loves the club, and starts kissing the badge, he is a disgrace who has left no foundations of a team,,,, pioneer?!, more like diarreah!!! Get the painting down and burn it!!!

  6. I really wish he would make the gardening thing stop immediately.
But outside of your own family and close pals, who has made your day more than Ally McCoist?
The guy will always be a legend in my house.

  7. Who made my day more than Ally McCoist?,,,Davy Cooper, by a country mile!!! Alex McLeish for Helicopter Sunday,,,Ally scored 1 in 8 chances,,, he was blessed by the quality of the players who delivered the ball to his feet. I remember him missing guilt edge chances after chances, guys like Cooper, Mark Walters, Trevor Stevens, Gazza, etc,, and lets face it,, McCoist got high wages as a player too, Legend my erse, he burnt that status they day he ripped off our club with the "we dont walk away" gimmick,, aye, me neither for the best part of a million pounds,,,its as embarrasing as David Murrays statement "if celtic spend a fiver, we will spend a tenner",, aye Davy,, that let Craig Whyte in the back door too,,, parasites every one of them, bringing our club down like that, bloody embarrasing!!

  8. Read the first few lines….

Is this a fucking sick joke or witt?

Manager Ally, Lee fuckin Wallace and big heed the baw at the top of the marble staircase. That'll be fucking right.

What's this, to remind future generations to be fucking eternally grateful that they will never have such shite in their team as we did now.

That's it, I'm torching the bastard place.

  9. Murrray was shot in the back?!,,, Murray isnt a 5 year old who had his lollipop taken from him. He embarrasingly came out and said he "was duped" by Craig Whyte?!!,, Murray, the ruthless businessman,,multi millionaire,,"duped",, and sold Rangers for a pound?!!,, Wake the feck up folks,,, it will all come out in the wash soon,,,and you will find Murray started all this,, He knew fine who Craig Whyte was and planned Rangers downfall from the beginning,,, Murray is nobodys fool,, he knew exactly what he was doing,,and he dodges all the bullets as if he is innocent,,, dont see him spending tenners for every celtics fivers anymore?!!! Murray and McCoist can get to feck,,parasites and anybody who supports them, go and pick up your season tickets at parkhead, its all your worth!!!
