Ian Black for the exit – Wigan remain interested

With Andy Murdoch officially
first choice defensive midfielder at Ibrox (including a Man of the Match
display v Queens on Saturday), speculation
over Ian Black’s future has increased with the certainty he will not be offered
a new deal having become surplus to requirements.
Wigan Athletic have recently been
linked with a move for the former Hearts man, and Gary Caldwell’s maiden job at
the DW Stadium just got much harder given their recent relegation to the third
tier of English football in League 1.

Caldwell would probably not have
a hard time persuading Black to end his Rangers limbo and help the Latics back
to the Championship, with wages certainly not being a major issue although it
remains to be seen if Blackie has the attitude and desire for a fight again
after the one he had at Ibrox, or if he simply wants a payday.
His stock remains uncertain, and Wigan are unlikely to be the only side looking for his
services on a free transfer this summer.

  1. Black never denied that he joined Rangers for the money. He is not a Rangers man. He does have the skills and ability. Unfortunately he is another victim of McCoist/McDowall circus clown mis-management. Waste of money, purely because McCoist ruined him and other players.

  2. If he isn't good enough or Rangers then he certainly isn't good enough for Wigan Athletic.

  3. A good player at Hearts but couldn't make the step up to playing for Rangers. He was by no means the worst of McCoist's buys but he certainly wasn't the best. Just a pity that McCoist was not removed sooner or we might actually have seen a better player just as is now happening with Shiels.

  4. I'll jump in the motor and drive him there personally. Another halfwit who should never have got near a blue jersey.

When the betting scandle was realised he should have been sacked for gross misconduct and marched by the ear right oot the door.
