Birmingham City defender on trial at Ibrox

17 year old Birmingham
City youth defender Tom Lang is
undergoing a trial at Murray
Park.
The trial actually began late last month, but Lang has done
enough so far to remain at Murray
Park to this day on merit
while manager Stuart McCall runs the rule over him.

Central defence is certainly a position Rangers lack depth
in, with only four recognised CB’s (McCulloch, McGregor, Mohsni & Zaliukas)
in the squad at present and a lack of consistent quality among them.
Lang has been at City his whole career, from the age of 12
onwards, and while he has not yet broken through at the senior level of his
parent club, he has represented Scotland
at both U16s and U17s level and was also called up in 2014 for the U18 squad.
It remains to be seen in due course if Lang will be joining
Rangers’ youth ranks on a permanent basis.

  1. Sebastian Faure is also a CB, as is Luca Gasparotto the Canada U-21 captain and Craig Halkett. I appreciate that Faure has not pushed his way into a jersey and the other 2 are a bit younger. But all three are significantly older than Lang.
I suspect Faure will leave in the summer, but Gasparotto should move into the first team squad and probably Halkett too.
Given that McGregor is the only definite keep with possibly Zaliuskas, I suggest our need is for 1 or possibly 2 quality CBs. I would want Gasparotto to be 4th in the queue, to ensure he gets game time next season
