Lee McCulloch & Livingston

27

With the much-changed back four
enjoying a very solid outing against Raith Rovers, it was a genuine pleasure to
see the central partnership many have longed for, Darren McGregor and Marius
Zaliukas, finally given a sincere outing.
McGregor has been deployed at RB
the majority of his Rangers career thanks to the “McCulloch Clause”, the
existence of which has divided Rangers fans right down the middle.

On one hand ‘it is ridiculous
that the notion of such a clause even exists. This website just made it up.’.
Then the other hand sees another selection of Lee McCulloch in the first team met on social media
with exasperated angst-ridden comments of ‘AGAIN?! He must have a clause!!’.
Do I have hard proof of the
clause? No, not beyond my sources’ word. But given McCulloch’s absolute
immunity to ever being dropped when fit and not suspended, which has been the
case since 2012, to paraphrase David Hume on miracles, it seems more likely to
deduce there is a clause based on
empirical evidence than there is not.
After all, Ally McCoist had no
difficulty dropping David Weir, and making space for the Goian and Bocanegra
partnership, even despite Sir David being Club captain. This led to King Davie
of Weir quitting Rangers the following summer.
Yet somehow, Lee McCulloch, not a
20th of the defender Weir was, remains absolutely ever-present,
regardless of form.
Hence why tonight’s selection
will be fascinating. Rangers finally saw a convincing back four on Sunday, with
a coast for both Crawford and Wallace while McGregor and Zaliukas soaked up
everything.
If McCulloch comes back in and we
see Zaliukas shunted back to the bench, or McGregor forced out wide and
Crawford on the bench, all to accommodate the captain, it does further
strengthen the empirical evidence, does it not?
Or is Lee McCulloch really just
that deserving to waltz straight back in?
On McCulloch’s selection, McCall
was suitably cryptic:
“I’ve not decided that yet – normally
we’d name the team the day before.”
We will find out around 19:00
tonight where things stand.

  1. Some of us getting nervous about criticising anything these days so I won’t comment about Lee Kung Fu – his contract – the 17k salary or anything. OK?

    • No problem with constructive criticism. You are free to express your views. Ignore the cyber bullies and say what you think.

    • Doesn't say much for them then does it? With Lee's reputation any referee will send him off on the spot, because if any player gets seriously injured their career will be cut short. That's the risk we run.

    • Class? He is a stopgap at centre back. Does not know how to play the position, following forwards in when they drop deep to leave gaps in defence. Dragging the back four too deep due to lack of pace. Panics when opposition retain possession. Rash tackles. In short. a McCoist captain. If this guy is the extent of our ambitions, god help us. You are obviously a mate or a relative. Put Rangers first!

  2. Lee is just what we need against this type of piggery mentality Livi Lions – OK? Says it all. Get right in about them bigyin.

  3. No flak please don't shoot the messenger. We might not get on the ISDX but if we do it will take a while.

    • RIFC do not meet the requirements for a Corporate Adviser on the ISDX and consequently will not be allowed onto it.

  4. I think Lee should play,, he is better leader than Wallace who had a nightmare against Queen of the South,,Lee is strong and tough, which we will need in the play offs, he has the experience of knowing how to win important games,, McCall with keep him in check,, is he worth 17k a week?, dont be daft,, but he is the best of a bad lot in defence just now,,McGregor makes more mistakes than McCulloch and Mohsni put together, but i dont see anyone having a pop at him,, he just does not have the height or presence for a centre half,,, big Zal and Lee,, Wallace,,Ferguson (if fit),, another thing,, these play offs should be getting played as a one off in our national stadium,,

    • Even if he ends a young player's career? Not saying he's evil definitely not, just incapable and well past his sell by date.

  5. I’ve spent £8,500 so far and never expected to see a penny back so this won’t make any difference to me. This is not investing, it’s contributing what I can afford to the greatest cause in the world and continuing to extend our heritage. Anyone who wants to complain about not being able sell their shares just doesn’t understand what it means to be a part of the PEOPLE!

    • Respect to you bunter. They hate to hear this type of commitment because they know that it underpins our inevitable return to supremacy.

    • Bunter, I respect the sentiment but you are stupid as there is no business plan and your money will end up in Ashley's pocket. You might as well flush your money down the toilet.

    • Could I interest you in an antique car Bunter? Doesn't look too bad no engine or wheels, no MOT since 1998, but you'd never want to go out in it anyway. Also got some nice pig in a poke stop throwing money away you dumbass.

    • Bunter and thousands like him are committed to seeing Rangers return to supremacy. You know it will happen and it distresses you, as betrayed by your posts. Acceptance is the first step in a return to normality for trolls such as yourself. A quiet chat with family members or a medical practitioner might also help. Best wishes on your rehabilitation.

    • Denial is the first stage and you are still there. Acceptance comes several stages later and you're nowhere near it. You don't even know what you must accept before you can exit. Do you?

  6. Absolute rubbish we win 4 nil at the weekend why change anything team looked and played really well and am not going to just blame McCulloch because we can't play back to back decent performance's. We'll still get up that I have no doubt of just don't know how yet. I've been defending these players to all my mates all season excuses starting to get harder to come up with

  7. Yes indeed respect to you Bunter, you represent exactly the kind of supporter that Green and Ashley identified….a naive defiance that guarantees millions into their coffers. Knock yourself out…

    • told you Bunter, the commitment you and thousands of other rangers fans have shown really annoys them!

    • Stop making excuses for these players and McCall. They are all sub-standard. We need a complete clear out with 10-12 new players. Starting with the keeper and ending with the temporary manager.

  8. Good to see total silence from all our friends in the papers so far on the SFA’s play to help us by fiddling it so we can play Hearts after we know how Hibs have got on in their last game. Shhhh! Maybe nobody’ll notice.

    • I think you misunderstand. McBrier is a regular contributor to other blogs and is a well known Rangers supporter with impeccable ethics. He is a personal friend of mine. The implication of what you are saying is that you would be quite happy to cheat if you could get away with it. Shame on you, disgrace to the cause.
