Painful for St Johnstone – perfect for Rangers

Despite Rangers’ squad crisis of injuries and suspensions (more on that later), as mentioned earlier Steven Gerrard could not have picked a better side to face while under slight personnel pressure than St Johnstone whose recent run is beyond diabolical and has led to complete freefall in the league.

Having scored just one goal in their last five matches in all competitions, St Johnstone haven’t won since the 23rd of last month against Livi, and their away record is similarly unimpressive with no wins since last year.

It adds up to a side Rangers would have hand picked for this occasion personally, and given the Saints have only won once at Ibrox in the league since the Premiership’s inception only affirms that idea – they have also not lost five in the league in a row since 2014 and currently sit at four.

But of course, a striker-less Rangers is certainly a weaker prospect, and especially the loss of Alfredo Morelos in particular does leave Stevie with one hell of a juggling act.

But this is definitely the side to juggle against for sure, and with no Michael O’Halloran Tommy Wright’s job is much harder than it already was.
