Rangers set to unveil £4.5M player deal

Rangers are set to unveil their new defence inside the next 24 hours with the nearly-completed deals for Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic on the verge of being announced.

The signings, said to be a combined value of around £4.5M, will finalise Steven Gerrard’s selection for central defence and give Rangers critically-needed quality at the back, with both Bruno Alves and Fabio Cardoso’s respective futures anything but certain.

21-year old Katic will be arriving in a £1.5M deal from Croatian outfit Slaven Balupo and the negotiations to secure him have been incredibly fast-tracked. News only reached us two days ago that Gerrard was close to the player, and it appears Rangers have beaten Russian giants Spartak Moscow to the punch.

The player has seemingly already passed the medical in Manchester, and once the contract has been signed, he and Brighton’s Goldson will presumably be unveiled as Rangers’ new defence before the week is even out.

It is good news for fans who have waited for some quality defenders, and while more CBs may still arrive, with interest in James Collins and Gareth McAuley still around, it is the armaments defence was desperate for.

More as it comes in.

  3. Only time will tell if his choices are good enough - there may have been a time in pre-history when we thought Rab Kieran was a centre back - but I am happy, I will settle for this and a decent striker to work with or backup Morelos.

Yes we can ask for more, but as a start it is looking pretty damn good πŸ˜€

  4. Great to see finally we are spending the necessary money needed to improve that defence. I actually feel with Mcgregor and these 2 strong boys in front of him will see our fortunes drastically change in defence. Would take McCauley on a free to finish off the set of 3 I think we need this Summer. Now on to strikers and a number 10.

  5. This would be a serious step in the right direction if Rangers can confirm both Goldson and Katic in the coming days. It is telling how much the tabloid pages are full of Celtic fans obsessed with Rangers financial position. Truth is they are seriously worried as media interest has switched away from a failed Liverpool Manager to a true football legend. Let’s go!

    1. I would add young Docherty and Candelas to the list of Subs although I suspect that we will also see the arrival of another midfield player before the season starts. Things are looking good as regards incoming players however I have concerns as to how we will move on teh deadwood like Hodson, Halliday and Dorrans.

  8. Praying these guys are good as they are tipped to be. We'd be a far differnt side if we could keep a clean sheet more consistently. These 2 signing could be the best news weve had since getting bk to SPL

  11. Hate using the "obsessed" line but they really are obsessed. As for the boy Katic, the thing I like about him, saying he's a total unknown quantity here,is the fact he's only 21 and he's got a smashed nose like a journeyman boxer. It tells me he likes putting his head in where the boots are flying and he likes a tussle, that will do me for a start. Mon the Gers!!
