Rangers set to seal big money signing imminently

Rangers should over the next day or so confirm Brighton’s Connor Goldson as Steven Gerrard’s fifth summer signing, following in the footsteps of Allan McGregor, Scott Arfield, Jamie Murphy and Ovie Ejaria.

The 25-year old defender is set to cost Rangers around £3M, with varying values of between £2.75m and £3.5M being claimed, but either way the ex-Shrewsbury stopper is reportedly on his way north early this week to carry out his medical and put pen to paper on a deal. This will confirm him as Gerrard’s first outfield defensive signing.

It makes a nonsense of the tabloid claims that there’s no money, comments we often reject on your favourite Ibrox Noise when the latest mentalist sends us a ‘tick tock’ message, and we will enjoy this excellent defender plying his trade in Govan at long last.

As for who will partner him, unknown as yet, but with some friendlies later this month to prepare for July’s Europa League qualifiers, there is just a semblance of a shape starting to form under Gerrard.

The Rangers boss will be keen to see his new signings in action, along with the existing squad, to give him an idea of how ready they are for the serious business next month.

We can’t wait.

  1. Of course there is money and more if SG wants it. We tend to forget what may well be going on in the background with potential investors. It is true that SG is box office and that also leads investors to take another look and say 'well if it is good enough for SG then maybe we should be investing in Rangers Football Club' We all have opinions about Dave King but he is not sitting on his arse doing sod all, he and the board are actively seeking inward investment that you can be sure of. I agree with this article that tabloid press love sensational headlines that try to undermine the club and its supporters. They will be made to eat their words believe me.

    • I do hope there is plenty money,as it now looks like we going have to give away the dead wood to get them off the wage bill,i like this signing only time will tell but he looks good.

  2. Good to get this one over the line. Looks like a great signing but we need at least one/two more centre-backs to partner him.

  4. Good Signing this lad will also sell on for a profit once he has helped us win the league a couple of times !! Mark Allen and his team doing a great job so far helping Steven get what he wants long may it continue Can't Wait …As far as the usual slash about us from those who see us fail …fuck them I see Tom Boyd's post today ..Aye we will stop yer TIAR ya twat !!!!!!

  5. Id like to see us you into next season with these options for CB:

A leader in the mould of John Terry or more likely Gareth Macualey to help oragnise the defence and teach the young'uns a thing or two before retiring in a couple of seasons.

2 CB's at their peak or coming towards it (age 23 – 27). Connor Goldson would definitley have been a pick for one of these slots. I'm not sure on the other one but it shoukd be someone with good sell on potential.

I would then supplement these 3 centre backs with young Aiden Wilson and continue to give Ross McCorrie some minutes there against lesser teams to see if he can progess in that position.

If our CB options come the new season were GMac, Goldson, ???, Wilson/McCorrie i would be one seriously happy bear.
