INSANITY: a who's who of the unreal list of players linked to Steven Gerrard's Rangers

The Scottish transfer window doesn’t officially open till June 1st, but that hasn’t stopped some pre-contracts joining Rangers and a glut of name the likes of which we are struggling to precedent.

Ever since Steven Gerrard joined the club, we have had an absolute monsoon of players linked. Some are likely, some still sit at the rumour stage, but Ibrox Noise nevertheless does its best at taking you through as many of the names we’ve been linked with as possible.

Martin Skrtel:

The story is a £4M deal is in place with this Slovakian ex-team mate of Stevie Ger. Information is this one is imminent.

Connor Goldson:

£600k bid rejected, but something close to a million will snatch Brighton’s 25-year old CB without a lot of fuss.

Reece Burke:

West Ham’s 21-year old CB is said to be seven figures too, and the situation with the London Stadium’s managerial vacancy makes Burke’s future there uncertain. Especially given he’s spent most his career with the Hammers on loan elsewhere.

Lucas Leiva:

Lazio’s 32-year old holding mid is another ex team mate of Gerrard, and is a Brazilian international. Well, former. Again, reports are a £4M sum would be enough but we don’t know a lot about this deal beyond the rumour stage.

Jack Marriott:

Peterborough’s on-fire striker, Marriott is putting them away for fun in English League One. Said to be valued at upwards of £5M and some rumours claim a bid to that amount has already been submitted by Gerrard and Allen.

Oliver McBurnie:

The Scotland international has had an excellent season at Championship Barnsley on loan from Swansea, and the 21-year old winger is yet another that £4M has allegedly been bid for.

Dom Solanke:

Liverpool striker, another young lad at 20, he knows where the back of the net is having had a very fine spell on loan at Dutch cracks Vitesse. Apparently Stevie will make making a formal inquiry to Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp on this one.

Jermain Defoe:

This one has persisted for sure – an experienced EPL striker with bags of world cup and Champions league pedigree, Defoe might not be the marquee forward he once was but the 35-year old is still more than good enough for the EPL.

James McArthur:

This one seems to have died a death, after being a borderline signature away from being a Rangers player at one point. Not completely gone but probably is, and Rangers have been looking elsewhere.

Fernando Torres:

Probably not, right? Right? Said that about Gerrard and Barton so who knows, but the Spanish legend is now a free agent and just wants first team football. With Rangers being a huge focal point of attention right now and his old stomping partner in charge, Torres might just be interested if compromise could be made on the wages.

John McGinn:

Rangers have been linked to McGinn for some time, and he’s clearly the best player in the SPL outwith Rangers and Celtic – he’s Hibs though so about as much chance of us getting him as them signing Andy Halliday…

We’re sure there’ll be more craziness today and that we’ve forgotten a tonne of the links too.

  2. Ok, I would swap Halliday for McGinn. In fact, because Hibs don't have any cash I wouldn't even demand that they give us £1 million to even it up

  3. you said 4m bid is in for Skrtel, 4m leiva, 5m marriot & 4m mcburnie. That's 17 million then if you add in 1m for goldson that's 18 million.
Add in the loan fees for the other players you mention then add in wages. That probably takes us close to 40million.
Ibrox noise do you know something the rest of us don't because the 6 million wouldn't even come close to securing marriot by the time you add on signing on fees & agent fees.
Season ticket money would probably just cover Skrtel & Levias deals.
That that would leave us with no money to pay wages etc for the full season.
Every year it's the same on here & we end up getting shit, over the hill players because that's all we can afford.
We still don't know if the new stripe will be ready for the start of the season
