Board takes big decision on Murty; reports

Breaking rumours this hour claim Graeme Murty has already been relieved of command at Ibrox and will not be in charge for Rangers’ visit of Hearts on Sunday.

Claims vary between him being completely axed at the club, to being restored to the youth setup, but the ugly performance, result and off-pitch aftermath of the Murty era are leading to allegations the 43-year old has finally run his race in Govan.

The disaster that was yesterday’s Old Firm nightmare for Rangers has put Murty under an even bigger microscope than he already was, and  with speculation being rife over the past month or two around the likes of Clarke, Robinson, De Boer, Jack, Keizer et al taking over, it does seem a matter of time before Murty leaves the post.

We all knew it was only till season’s end anyway, but in a case of damage limitation the board are alleged to have decided to take action and dealt with it now.

We cannot corroborate these claims as yet but we’ll keep you posted.

  1. really feel sorry for murty who has been hung out to dry by the incompetence of the board, they gave the job to caixinha who was never the right man for the job and to add insult to injury gave him 10m to absolutely waste on dross, then when it hits the fan they dont have anything left to offer an new manager so they have to upgrade a youth coach and make him a patsy, it should be king, park and robertsons heads on the block instead of murty!

  2. Murty has been put in a situation no other manager of our football club has ever had to undertake. He hasn’t twice inherited a pool of players he did not sign, although we are aware he had some input into the January signings. He has also had the misfortune to have important influential players he could have selected injured. He did however select the side he put out yesterday which he got so wrong, but in his defence not one of his team, maybe on this occasion we can exonerate the keeper Foderingham for his goalkeeping, but his distribution was pathetic, but all the players on the field of play let the amazing vocal support, manager and the club down. We were fortunate to not lose by 7, 8 or more goals.
The time is now to get a manager in, recruitment must be the boards main agenda and not wait till the campaign starts next season. The new appointee should tell all playing staff he wants to retain to have 3 weeks break and return to training immediately, those who he wants rid off, ask their agents to get them another club.
As for Murty, I have no axe to grind with him, if he still has a position at Ibrox with the youth development squad, then so be it. If he decides to leave, he goes with my best wishes and should he be dismissed then I feel sorry for him but hope to wish him success in the future.
He was placed in an appointment with Rangers that should have only been temporary and the job should have already been filled.

  3. Really sorry for Murty. A really nice guy but I knew as soon as I saw the team sheet we were going to lose. I hope the board take a chance with Jack Ross.

    • Agree 100%. But, of course, they won't. Instead, they'll probably put Jimmy Nichol in charge for the next 5 games – another mistake!

    • I hope nicol does take charge for the remaining games. He's a true blue. And knows what it takes to get a team going.

  4. Definitely a pity that Murty maybe for ever tainted by his short managerial career at Rangers albeit in a temporary role. I think given different circumstances without all the pressures that involve managing Rangers he would become a decent manager. I think he needs another club to ply his trade and I think he will thrive.

  5. King is the one that should go! A total cowboy and after his spat with the South African Authorities we should have looked elsewhere for a Chairman. As we saw again last week he is an embarrassment, he is like a seagull, he flies over, shits on people and then disappears. Where was he on Sunday?

    • Need to stop going on about the South African thing. King has been told he can appeal it but has said no cause t would take up to much time. The judge that people always quote regarding King is now in jail for
Taking bribes during that trial from kings competitors. If king was such a bad guy he would be holding the contracts that South Africa’s tax authority’s

    • What king does in South Africa is utterly irrelevant

The absolute shambles he is responsible for at ibrox is utterly relevant

The only credit I give him is his ability to fool so many gullible people.

I told anyone who would listen, and argued pointlessly with those who wouldnt.

This is the truth, like it or not.

Club is worse off now than it was under Ashley in championship. No progress has been made or will be made for one simple reason – those in charge don't know how to move club forward. Good intentions or not.

I feel for Murty. Never was he qualified to be manager, just a scapegoat to deflect criticism from board

I blame rangers fan groups for fostering this bitter petty seige mentality that is allowing the club to be run into ground with little push back from anyone. Every time anyone – fan or journalist- points out this reality they get accused of being anti rangers. Grow up for fuck sake.

    • Look, let's be realistic here – King is going nowhere! There is no doubt he should be off but it won't happen. And despite what we all think of him, he has a major investment in the club and unless someone buys him out (which won't happen) he's here for the long run. We can only hope (and pray) that his next decision, on a new manager, is the right one. On a separate note, I don't go along with the sympathy vote for Murty. Like any individual, he had a choice to make when offered the job – refuse it and he'd still have the Development role or take his chance with the first team. It's a load of guff to say you can't turn down the Rangers job. He knew his abilities and where he might have been lacking but took a considered decision he could do the job – no-one made him say yes. He had been in the club for long enough, knew the internal politics etc, to make a calculated decision – he made the wrong one. For all that (and he was totally culpable yesterday), I hope he gets his Development role back. I fear, however, he will simply walk away. Whether it is all his fault (and clearly it's not) he will be tarnished by what happened yesterday. A clean break is perhaps best for all; including Murty.

    • Anyone who disagrees with E Chef comments must be deficient of active brain cells. Absolutely spot on. Murty not the problem, not even Pedro, only the one's which done due diligence. THE BOARD

    • Donald.
Everyone knows E-chef is on the money.
Unless some multi millionaire comes in and buys the club it's a waste of time talking about it.
      We are where we Are!!
Unless you have a spare 300m squire!???

    • I think King is the only financier Rangers have, whether we like him or not, what other option at this time do we have?
The manager selection board of directors are culpable for the atrocious appointment of Pedro, but the majority of Rangers fans agreed Warburton and Weir was a good choice, but we all know Warburton intransigence caused his sacking at Ibrox and his demise at Forest.
So King should take action to remove them from the board or the very minimum, have no input into the selection of the new manager.

    • Not better off than when under Ashley in the Chapionship – E Chef away and don’t talk such utter shite would you. He was an assist stripper at Ranges for his Sports Direct Brand. Shirt deal any more one sided it made Ranges look like a stroke victim for fucks sake…

King ain’t the best fact the timing of the ST statement proves what’s wrong at Rangers. Too many chiefs and not one solid strong character out of the lot of them. Robbie nails it though until somebody buys him out lock stock n barrel then nothing can be done…

Fan ownership never happen too many splintered groups..All this Ashley is our saviour pish wake the fuck up. If it wasn’t for the superb supporters at Newcastle keeping that Club going then he’d leave them high n dry – he’s hated with a passion down here by the Black n Whites…

  6. I dont think murty would want to stay as he's now had a taste of 1st team football compared to under 20s and I think he may want to have a go in lower leagues of England/Scotland as 1st team coach, but whatever happens I wish him all the best as I believe he's been hung out to dry by some members of the Board
You Know Who You Are!!! watp Helicopter 2005

  7. Murty should go back to running the Youth side where he was successful. As for our next manager, so far I haven't seen one manager mentioned that has the CV to suggest that he can take us back to the top and by appointing Jack, or some of the others mentioned then we will be in the same position in 12 months time. King has two choices, either he personally funds a manager that can seriously challenge for the top spot and provides the necessary funding for much needed players or he hands over control to someone that can!

  8. Should never have been put in charge in the first place, board better have something sorted before the end of May before they get my season book money, can't take another season of trailing they cunts by so many points and gutless performance as yesterday.

  9. That happens in football sackings always when you do not win, could some one tell me now i read in here that Clarke, is a Selltic fan as are all his family could we offer him the job would we all be happy with him?,look at it this way would they offer McCoist the job? Robinson, could be a starter De Boer, the one i want Jack, could be. the rest i do not know about

    • That's a tad unfair. He was put into a position, not once but twice with no fault of his own. Everyone knew his pedigree.."An under 20's coach" nothing more. Our board put him into a position that he was not qualified or experenced for.How can it be his fault? If he'd refused he would have been sacked,so he was in a no win situation. One other point, What has J Nicol contributed? Another bizzare appointment in my view, but no critisism from any Fans.

    • To say good riddance is a tad unfair. However, there is so much guff that 'Murty was left out to dry by the board'. He was offered the job. If he refused he was guaranteed to remain as Development coach. He thought he would take a chance and he failed. End off!

    • The board have been mugging us all of since Warburton appointment. That appointment worked up to a point before MW lost the Cup Final and then interest in working in Scotland. Caixhinha & Murty appointments both very poor decisions for different reasons. If any of these had worked the board would be backslapping and congratulating each other on their vision. They don't know football. Assume Mark Allen will be instrumental in next appointment. Question is, Does he know football???

  10. Dangerous as although we collectively fu*ked it yesterday , Killie in 5th are only 7 behind us with Hibs 3 and Aberdeen level. The split is going to be difficult especially with morale being at a all time low. I suspect Murty is probably the man to secure us 2nd as he knows the squad. Bringing someone in now who could realistically finish 4th would be both a disaster for this season and not a good starting point for 2018-19. It doesnt make sense right now. Give the new boss a clean slate and forget this season altogether.

    • Good points. Remember also, that with Motherwell in the final and Celtic already assured of 1st place, the 'Well will be in Europe (irrespective of how they fare in the Cup Final). All of which means, 4th place will miss out on a European spot.

  11. Getting rid of Murty NOW only makes sense if the new man can start immediately. He gets last 4-5 games to assess the squad and plan his pre-season.

Nearly all of the names touted should be available to start now either because they are out of work or because their clubs are secure in their league position and leaving is unlikely to affect their standing.

    Steve Clarke please

    • Why would Steve Clarke ever be Rangers manager?
He and his brother have written articles on how they grew up living and loving Celtic, travelling to their games with their extended family.
Both have been vocal in that Rangers should have been expelled from Scottish football and titles taken away.

      Steve Clarke ??

    • I have had enough of managers coming in and taking wages and doing nothing, maybe Steve Clarke could do a job for us would it matter oif he was a celtic fan?lets make sure we get the right manager in this time time is running out.
      dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/celtic-hotseat-steve-clarke-saw-3640073

    • I can't say I've seen the articles you mention but the man is a professional and if he feels he can commit to our club then that's good enough for me. Others have done the same over the years…

  12. Feel Sorry for Murty
…The Position he was put in by the Board 😡

It should be SACK THE BOARD

If Murty has been relieved he goes with my respect and Admiration for how he has dealt with everything.
Was dealt a bad hand 👎
    Man has behaved with Class/Dignity

Also, I Believe we should let him go bk to the u20s

  13. While i feel for murty's situation, his team selection yesterday was an absolute joke and his tactical knowledge isn't much better.

McCrorie starting at cb when he had only played 1 game of football in 3 months was just ridiculous. Not to mention the fact that the lad is a much better defensive midfielder and if anything he should have been in hallidays position. Way off the pace of the game regardless and completely thrown in at the deep end beside that clown Russell Martin.

Halliday is another one who had played very little football in months yet murty handed him a start. Way off the pace of the game too.

Russell Martin should be sent back to norwich immediately, we'd be better off playing a youth player in defence than him. Hell, Cummings would probably be better in defence than Martin. Pathetic.

We looked like a lower league team yesterday, it was actually disgusting to watch.

Going by that performance we'll be lucky to even get 4th.

Sickened by everything that's going on right now and i'm no longer looking forward to next season. In fact, i'm dreadin it.

  14. Get Walter back in for the final 5 games.
I'd like to see what he could do with this lot and really find out who has got it and who hasn't.
I think we would find out that some of them are a lot better than we saw yesterday when a manager who knows exactly what he's doing sets the team up correctly and players get played in the correct position in the right formation.

    • What positive news – that Murty has been relieved of his first team duties! Unless the new manager is ready to be revealed what exactly would that achieve? Put Jimmy Nicholl in charge for 5 matches – away and behave. Look Murty has done his very best in as honest a way as he can. He has been put in an intolerable position by King and the Board. He is a rookie manager that was always going to make mistakes up against one of the most experienced British managers who has operated at the top level. Fact is Murty brought stability after the circus that was Pedro and for a few weeks he got us within a whisker of Celtic. After King’s shameful statement in the run up to the semi he has looked like a man that has been hung out to dry and the players clearly thought they had been given license to treat the manager with the same disrespect as afforded by the Board.

    • a liberty for murty that guy has been tremendous lets give murty the last 5 games hes due that ,never heard murty back stabbing any one hes been loyal to the board that put him there true gentleman ,he wanted to keep wilson ,he wanted to keep bates ,but was told no ,have you heard the guy complain ,hes the only one that can hold his head up high ,board and players let this guy down ,

    • Aye that's the exact positive news I'm waiting on! If you genuinely think Murty is capable of getting us 2nd place after coming up against Clarke, Lennon and Rodgers again then you need to go and have a lie down! Murty isn't capable of dealing with the obvious dressing room fall outs nevermind deal with tactics and team selection! Being a rookie manager is not an excuse for a total lack of ability, nor is it a reason for us to accept it. As for "blame the board" pish..murty and Allen took the credit for player recruitment, he must take the criticism for how he uses them. This is the guy who insisted on bringing back o'halloran but never used him. He was happy to bring in Cummings but hasn't played him because he hasn't got the balls or ability to change the formation. So YES that positive news can't come quick enough!
