Rangers have been ‘rocked’ by a new injury blow following doubts over 32-year old stopper Russell Martin.

The on-loan Norwich man reportedly picked up a knock in training and has been placed on the ‘watch’ list, and while the injury is not said to be too serious, it has put massive doubt over his ability to be fit in time for the big one.

Naturally eagle-eyed readers will notice the apostrophes over ‘rocked’ – the loss of Martin would likely not make an iota of difference to Rangers’ fortunes, such has been the frailty at the back whether he has played or not, but it does reduce manager Graeme Murty’s options a tad and probably rules out the possibility, however unlikely it was, of a back three being deployed.

It also near-certainly confirms the Old Firm pairing at the rear will be David Bates and Bruno Alves, unless Murty suddenly turns to unfancied Fabio Cardoso, which would be another extremely remote possibility.

There are some claims in the press that Martin may in fact be fit by Sunday, but the sheer doubt over his chances make his lining up in the XI unlikely.
