Most Rangers fans probably didn’t know this about January signing

Rangers fans are not exactly happy with yesterday’s dismal loss to Kilmarnock, and a number of players are getting both barrels.

However, one was regarded as having had his second bad match in a row, following a slightly weaker Old Firm than expected, before being hooked at half time yesterday after an average first half.

Sean Goss, who up till 12:00 one week ago was the toast of the fans, has now become something of a scapegoat and after two displays which did not reach the heights of the start he’d made following his move from Loftus Road, many fans wish to see axed.

Of course, that very thing happened when he was removed on 45 minutes and Rangers, with Jason Holt in his position, conspired to be even worse after the restart, but that is neither here nor there.

The point is something a lot of fans probably didn’t know – yesterday’s start at Ibrox was only Sean Goss’s 14th senior start in football, period.

The 22 year midfielder has made nine league starts for Rangers, three in the cup, and the two for Ian Holloway’s QPR.

In short, after a stunning beginning his time north of the border, his inexperience at senior level may just be showing for the first time, with two managers in a row shutting him out.

Next to him the outstanding Greg Docherty may be one year his junior but has tonnes of senior SPL experience and it has really shown over the past two matches.

This is not to attack Goss – this is not a smear on him, but rather, an appeal for some understanding from the fans who want him out the team. We are big fans of his and hope he can get over this blip, but as we iterate, he has only ever started 14 games at senior level.

And right now, it’s essentially him or Holt.

  1. And that tells you a lot…especially last weeks performance. Like most of the players that joined in January they haven't played much for their parent club…yet we expect them to be fantastic every game. Its good you make this point and I would make a general point that these players are all new to each other and the club and Scottish football so we need to remember we have cup semi in a few weeks and we want to finish 2nd so battering players and management is not going to help. Lets all get behind the club and support.

The same applies to Murty as yesterday was is 11 match as a 'manager' ! Brenda has managed 5 clubs, Steve Clarke at least 2 maybe 3…so a little perspective is required.

Other issues to take into account, Dorrans, Jack, Wallace and McCrorie all injured and now Bates…we have had no bloody luck with injuries at all. Then we are hindered by the useless Alves ( I wrote on here last September that he wasn't as advertise ) and Cardoso. Letting Danny Wilson leave looks like an arrogant mistake for sure.

However, we need to take all this on the chin and support the current squad and staff if we want to get to that cup final. I think we can and I wouldn't be surprised if Morelos ( also only 21 years old ) score the winner in that won!!

C'Mon the rangers…lets back the manager and the team.

    • Blueblue, I admire your kind and positive thinking towards Murty and the players. And there is nothing more I would love is to see us lift the scottish cup. But, I feel you may have to be a bit more realistic!
In answer to your question if I expect the players who joined in January to play fantastic every week?. I expect EVERY player who puts a Rangers jersey to play fantastic every week, because that's what they are getting paid to do. They are the second highest paid players in the SPFL, yet players who are getting thousands less, are out playing and out classing them. You either win for Rangers or die trying, our players do not deliver this ethos! Who's to blame for not delivering?, Murty and the board for appointing him!
I agree with being unlucky with injuries, disagree re Danny Wilson, he was just average as the rest of the team. Went where the money is!
I agree we can't change things and we just have to deal with what we have in front of us.
As always, I will continue to support my team every week, but I am most realistic how average and mediocre they are,,, that second place will not be a given, and the cup is only a dream as opposed to a realistic chance!!

    • Hi GersJumbo…we really don't have a choice but to be positive. I understand your point about the players should be playing fantastic but that takes time. How can you expect a guy who's only played 14 senior games to play fantastic. Its not about how much they are paid…have you seen an Arsenal match this season ? They are paid millions and look like they can't be bothered. So its not about pay.
Yes in the past when we had mature, experienced Rangers players they either either win or die for the jersey but these are not the same thing. We have to recognise what we have and where we are…and we are not that far away but we need to support the squad if we want to get a result at Hampden.

  2. I was aware lot Ross's lack of full game time and he does have ability .I would however question Murtys selection given young Goss's torrid 2nd half last time out …I didn't slag Goss and we shouldn't , however he may not be ready for consecutive games or for being a long term solution to what we need .Murty picks the team and makes the changes he made mistakes yesterday again… exposing Cummings with no support although he never stopped trying …Lack of courage again by Murty to go 2 up front …as on the OF game …Lets hope the board have a solution near season Ticket time!!!
