Rangers enjoyed a comfortable win tonight against a dreadful St Johnstone, and a great many of their big players turned up in drovers to perform, the likes of Jamie Murphy, Josh Windass, Sean Goss and Greg Docherty especially outstanding for the travelling blues.
However one January signing reverted back to type, having failed to convince many fans over the past month or so of his qualities, and while he seemed to have a more competent display against Hearts, Russell Martin’s weaknesses at the back were exposed on several occasions and the 32-year old on-loan Norwich defender will have done his case for a permanent move to Rangers no good at all.
Rangers fans were decidedly unimpressed and took to social media to express just how poor Martin was, and how shaky Rangers’ central defence continues to be despite the excellent results otherwise.

There will always be a weak link in any team. Dump Martin and someone else will become the weak link. Bottom line is we have won 5 in a row and Martin has played everyone I think. He hasn't played much this season before joining us so he will need sometime to find form. Let's not forget he made the last few minutes against Hearts easier , took his goal well and kept a clean sheet. Let's look at the positives, what a performance, highlight for me was dochertys pass which was pure quality. Murty is doing a great job. Bring on Falkirk. One game at a time. Watp
Wow we lose one goal and score 4 and all people can do is complain about one guy… and this poor st Johnstone drew with Celtic a few games ago, I was actually worried about tonight since st Johnstone away is the kind of games we have struggled with at times, but we came out hard and fast, but as soon as we went 4:0 up the whole team seemed to take the foot off the gas not just Martin, but then again they were prob just wanting off that pitch since it was game over and horrible weather so can’t blame them really

While I’m not sure of Martin myself as yet but that’s pretty scathing IN. Like the lads have said I’d take the positives from the game rather than the negatives…6 Points once again all they can do is keep applying pressure too that mob….

Martin has not convinced me there is the answer to our central defensive gaps and poor marking ..our goalie is a pain cause he does not command the box this leaving young Bates and Martin even more exposed .I think Alves needs to come back with Bates…till we get a real commanding CH in the Summer…Good result but still gaps …Docherty Goss superb …we need to get Goss for next season …ideal Europe player…classy and calm ..with Docherty as his Rottie!!!
