Murty makes bizarre claim…

Rangers manager Graeme Murty has made an odd comment, and it is not even that clear who it is aimed at.

Following Saturday’s disappointing defeat to Hibs, the former Reading man said:

“We have to get away from this one game mentality thinking we are the best team in the world or the worst team in the world.”

It is not the first time Murty has made a comment which has either confused or downright annoyed us, and we are scratching our heads trying to translate this.

Is ‘we’ the squad? Is it the fans? Is Murty trying to say that our expectations get too high after wins and too low after losses? And again, expectations being the fans’ or the squad? Or everyone?

We cannot deny a little bewilderment here, but maybe it does get back to the dichotomy this fanbase faces in the traditional expectation we have compared with the reality we are currently in.

Perhaps our loyal readers can fully explain what this observation by Murty entails.

  1. I'm guessing he means the fans and he's absolutely right. It's exactly the same as the fans' reaction to players' performances. One week Morelos is worth £10M, next week he is, in the view of one fan who tweeted, "one of the worst players ever to play for Rangers"! It was the same with Miller – one week (when he'd scored) he was one of the Rangers greats, next week (when he hadn't) he was past it and a waste of space. The following week he was great again! You couldn't make it up!

    • I agree we do not treat our players with respect. I think the manager knows his players and picks the best team as he sees in training. He is the fall guy if it all goes wrong. Lets all get behind our players with encouraging remarks remembering a player can go through a bad spell just like ourselves. WATP

    • Bang on the button both of you. It’s too easy to slate the Manager & Team after a disapointing result ( very disapointing ). We praise them to the rafters win they win but a bad game and the knives are oot in a flash…..

Not that long a go Murty was the baws now some have him worse than Ped or Warbs.. Jackanory couldn’t make it up! I’m fuming we dropped points after that mob got done by Killie. That said I’m looking onwards & upwards as it’ll get better..

Still got the Sheep to play and the Dirt so ground can be made up with those games. The players must take responsibility too not just Murty!

  2. I too was a little confused with this comment Murty needs to take a little more time before speaking to the press he did not put that across well at all …Traynor ????,we had enough with Pedro's Pish !!! Watties team's always thought they were the best thats how they almost did 10 in a row …Why not start getting more confident The Scottish system SFA and the Rotten Mob agenda has always been based on making us feel down and guilty for something…I say yes puff out the chest pull on the Blue and let's get right in about the lot !!!! More thought on what ever we do please

  3. I think he's basically getting at consistency & belief with a Ode!!!

When things ain't going our way we feel sorry for ourselves and heads go down, hide a bit (Worst team in the world)

When were on the crest of a wave 2-0 up and coasting with chests flared, and everyone demanding the ball (Best team in the world)

He requires to pick the best team and get his tactics wright to achieve Equilibrium.

  4. This was the kind of statement we were hearing from Pedro makes no sense at all he was blowing his trumpet after victories over Aberdeen saying we were going places since that we struggled to beat Ross County beat a highland league team and lost again at home to Hibs maybe he listened to Lennon saying beating Rangers was better than beating Barca other point has Windass got something in his contract saying he is not to be subbed no matter how poor he is

  5. I don’t think Murty is the man to challenge Celtic. I would prefer the Kilmernock manager and 2 of the players as well

    • Roland, you think SC is a better manager than our own why he got turned over with Aberdeen? in one off games like on that pitch they have they beat us and selltic, some times the state of a pitch is a good leveler and it is nothing to do with what manager is in charge,

    • Spot on Roland: Steve Clarke is in a different managerial planet to Murty who becomes a bigger embarrassment with every interview/utterance – and that's to say nothing of his selections, formations, tactics and inability to change the game plan. It was obvious from the first minute on Saturday that Allan, McGinn and McGeouch were going to run the game and what did we do to combat that. Absolutely zilch!

  6. It's directed at the team/squad, no? NL had Hibs flying and in our faces from the off, and we couldn't deal with it. So there will be games where you have to soak it up, take the odd sore one (particularly if Willie 'i'm in charge' Collum's about), and get on with it. Otherwise you are in danger of being seen as a bunch of prima donnas that don't like a fight. It was at Ibrox in front of 50k for God's sake. Pathetic.

  7. Regardless what is said by any of us, judging by the way we have played under Pedro and Murty, we will be fighting for 3rd or 4th place this season! That's the reality of it all.
The results we are producing is now where near a second placed team, never mind challenging for the league. This half of the season is going to be like the past year and a half,, full of inconsistent results. Our Ibrox record is unacceptable!!
So sit back and get ready to be more and more frustrated in the coming months.

  8. Murty will be found out sooner rather than later. The Hibs match was a great opportunity to cement the recent momentum and a chance to put a little bit of pressure on Celtic. We are now blaming the referee. This was a big match we needed to win and we blew it again!

  9. We should be supporting Murty and The Players not sharpening our knives on them just because we played poor against Hibs. 🙄

    • It was a very open first half and Rangers were all over the top of them the 2nd half. The ref didn’t help with what must be the softest penalty I’ve ever saw in my puff… Any other day that would’ve been 3 points – the fact they played them off the park after the break is because Murty & Jimmy would’ve went postal at halftime….

Too quick to throw the toys ooot oh the pram after a result like that… The players & Murty will soon learn that it’s not acceptable at Ibrox

    • I see Stevo, so what about Rangers 0-Hamilton 2,,Dundee 2-Rangers 1,, Rangers 1-St Johnstone 3,, Then Rangers 1-Hibs 2,,,,,
Call me old fashioned Stevo, but Murty is just not cutting it, if you pardon the pun!
