Graeme Murty has confirmed veteran defender Bruno Alves will not feature in the starting XI at Ayr this weekend, citing that it is ‘too soon’ for the former Porto man to last 90 minutes.
Alves is returning from a medium-term calf injury and has been restored to training, but Rangers’ manager has stated he will not be in from the start to face Ian McCall’s men but did not rule out his introduction later on as a sub.
He said:
“Bruno’s taken full part in training today but I think it’s too soon for him to be involved… from the start of the game.”
Of course many would argue David Bates and Russell Martin are doing just fine, but there are some voices advocating a return for the 36-year old. By Murty’s account, he could well be on the bench for the seaside clash and may even find himself called into action, but he definitely will not start.
Sad news to hear about the passing of ex celt Liam miller. Hope they find a date to rearrange tomorrow's fixture
