Rangers’ six-figure loss to Celtic

After a summer of being linked heavily to the Championship’s best player, Rangers appear to have given up without any kind of fight for the services of St Mirren’s Lewis Morgan.

Widely regarded as the most promising prospect the country’s second tier has to offer, the 21-year old attacking midfielder’s loss to Celtic feels more than a touch like a second Scott Allan shambles, and many Rangers fans have no idea why we did not even muster a bid.

The youngster is on the verge of completing a £300,000 move to Celtic, with immediate loan back to St Mirren Park; that is something Rangers could easily compete with, and Morgan would surely have strongly considered Govan given he would have made the permanent switch to Rangers and likely been installed immediately in our first team squad.

Rangers generally seem to be creaking in something resembling the right direction; our defence actually looks quite good, but midfield and attack need desperate work. With Graham Dorrans injured, Ryan Jack injured or suspended, and Jordan Rossiter in desperate trouble (more on that one later), quality additions need to be made there.

And Morgan would have been a low cost and high potential signing to make.

But it appears Rangers just were not interesting in outbidding Celtic and getting our fans a promising young player.

And we cannot help wondering why.

  1. This is a two fold plan by the scum firstly they beat us to the signing they then put the player out on loan just like Christie at Aberdeen they now have a player who they can then sell on and make money from him or alternatively if he becomes good enough he goes into their squad this is forward planning something that we dont have

    • Spot on! Celtic have their strategy absolutely right when it comes to signing the best young scottish players in the divisions. Rangers continue to stumble on with no clear plan or direction. I can't help feeling that the Murphy saga will end like all the rest with the Bosard offering a token amount considerably less than the asking price which ythey know will be rejected. It's called going through the motions too fool the fans that they do have ambition.

  2. I don't see how you cna claim that we could easily ocmpete with that. we aren't exactly flush and I htink every penny we spend in this window and proably the next 3 or 4 has to go into players who woudl go straight into the first team squad. A loan-back doesn't fit that model and he is still a relatively un-proven comodity – after all how many of our own squad have struggled to make the step-up form Championship to Premier

    • If we can afford $10m on Pedro Le Guen signings how are we not able to compete with this?

I am very excited about Morgan's potential and will be very sad to see another rangers daft player sign for another Scottish team because we cannot see value above cost. Despite the millions spent last summer I'd be happy to see most of them leave for free just to get them off the wage bill.

We don't need a big squad, remember Smith keeping a small squad with players able to play in multiple positions. Sticking with players with future sell on value is the way to go for now. No point keep playing Miller if we're still losing/drawing against the Diddy teams.

  3. The fact we can't compete speaks volumes. We can't even afford st Mirren players and the whole Murphy chase is action replay – they want 1m and we are offering a fraction of that.

We are a big club with a small club board.

  4. At the end of the day we don’t have any spare money , that’s why we have got GM till end of season.

    • If we can afford Murphy with no sell on value, how can we not see Morgan plays same position and can be sold for a profit later. We cannot seem to see value over cost.

  5. It sickens me how we are spending on players the money we don't have when players like Morgan don't even get a look in. I'm gutted Caixinha got to spend that amount of money on dross and there's zero left for young rangers daft players with heaps on sell on value.

The problem seems to remain with the board.

Even if Allen was wrong that he has no influence over signings, why has he not been reprimanded for stating so publicly???? Why is he there!

  6. Me I'm glad they got him and not us, he's doing ok nothing more in the 2nd division, look at the players we had to offload when stepping up a division, also Cummings from fibs we dodged a bullet there also.
Murphy is a good move, Goss we can have a good look @ him.
Before making any judgement on Murty & Allans recruits please wait more than 3 fuking days.
Pretty sure there's plenty going on behind the scenes.
Rangers supporters these days have the patience of a wasp!!

  7. ANSWER TO EVERY QUESTION IS :-

    ASS KING

    Yes Ass King

Aaking questions of one another when you should Asking KING

  8. Surely this is the type of player we need to sign.
Sign cheap, then coach and mould, then sell for profit?
This needs to be our business plan going forward.
