Rangers confirm extension talks with key defender

Rangers have confirmed they are keen to tie up key defender Danny Wilson on a new deal.

Manager Graeme Murty has made the Scotland international a priority signing, having indirectly confirmed him as his first choice central defender, and now Rangers’ boss has started work on tying him down to a long term contract.

Wilson, 26, sees his deal expire in six months, and Rangers will not want to lose such a key part of Murty’s vision going forward – after formerly having little favour among many fans, Wilson’s extended spell in the team of late has given him the foundation to produce the form we knew he could.

And now Rangers are working on sorting him out for a longer deal.

Murty said:

“These are guys that are performing well (Wilson and forward Josh Windass) and when players are performing well then it’s up to the manager to talk to them, keep them in the loop and get an understanding of where they see themselves in the next year. Our discussions with them will be on-going although as to lengths of contracts that’s something I will talk to the players about. We have spoken to both about their situations but so far detailed discussions haven’t taken place. We are aware of their situation and they are aware we are talking internally.”

So anyone worried talks had not started over Wilson’s future need not fret.

  1. Looks like it’s all coming together, and Cummings for 600k come the summer. That’s a steal, will really upset hibs sell on clause

  2. Shades of recent past discussions. if the manager does not know who he wants and who wants to stay there would be something wrong. Like out last 2 mangers, that was not the problem, it was their ability to put a constantly winning team on the park. Murty still to prove anything really, signs are slightly better, def talks a better game, results, well could not be any worse than the last 2 managers, signings this transfer window look okay, time will tell, it is still clear we are struggling financially unless this forum is missing or refusing to highlight that fact. 3. Wilson is an average player. If you want to continue accepting mediocrity and wish to compete for 2nd place every season, then by all means, give Wilson and Windass 5 year contracts. Furthermore, why don't we just hand the beggars 10 in a row just now and spare the suffering in years to come. Average players equals average team!
