Can Rangers persuade English giants to sell?

Ok, now that is out of the way, as an ironic disclaimer, we get can get to business. The irony of course is Rangers’ pre-season last summer was an incredibly prophetic vision of what was to come this season.

Fans often like to disregard friendlies, but frankly more often than not, a pre-season program is a good sense of where the team is going. And Pedro’s Rangers were anything but convincing aside that one good display v Marseille. We drew with the New Saints for chief’s sake.

Anyway, this winter Rangers have been involved in a friendly tournament, as we all know. The Florida Cup has been a very interesting workout and there are many things we have been able to take from it, but one of the key stand outs is after seasons of pretty poor dead ball delivery, Sean Goss has suddenly arrived and two pin point free kicks later, Rangers finally have a left foot worth a damn.

Sure, a couple of direct free kicks went in by Candeias and Alves earlier this season, but Rangers have desperately lacked a convincing set piece delivery.

Niko Kranjcar was supposed to resolve that one but simply has not ‘delivered’, pun firmly intended, and no one else has consistently stepped up. Tavernier’s running crossing is getting better, as is Candeias’, but set piece is quite different.

Rangers simply have not been dangerous enough from corners and swinging free kicks – defences have found clearing the ball way way too easy.

Well, inswinging from the right or outswinging from the left, Sean Goss looks like he is capable of consistent quality from the flanks and that will give our bigger men something to bite on.

Goss’ assist for Morelos strike in USA v Corinthians was ‘on a plate’. That is the kind of ball defences are terrified of and they just cannot deal with it – and if Goss keeps this kind of standard up, Rangers must go all out to persuade QPR to sell him.

And someone must go all out and persuade Niko to leave the corners.

  1. The irony is, the better Goss plays for us, the less likely QPR are to let us make him a permanent addition to the team.

  2. I don’t think we have a snowballs chance of signing him. He is ones of Les Ferdinand’s favourites, he has tipped him to go far in the game(and that was last season, not when we got him) he has also stated that this loan is purely for first team game time to a view to him stepping up to Their first team squad. Unless he has a major change of heart on the boy or we offer ridiculous money for him. Oh btw from what we have seen of him I’d love to sign him, he is better than what we currently have. Just don’t think it’s feasible but of course we should try. WATP.
