Rangers make contact over deal for EPL midfielder

Sources have confirmed today that Rangers have made contact with Brighton over wantaway winger Jamie Murphy, with the 28 year old looking to resurrect his career north of the border.

It has been established the deal would not be a loan, but a permanent signing, but that as yet, discussions have not come to agreement over a fee.

The former Motherwell attacker has had a rough time of it in the EPL with new-promoted Brighton, but Rangers are looking to bring in a substantial number of new recruits next month in Graeme Murty and Mark Allen’s maiden rebuild.

Murphy is high on the list of priorities.

But until Rangers raise their bid to something the EPL side consider feasible, the deal will not happen.

Rangers’ board are clearly wary of being burned, as happened on the Mexican pair and some would argue Graham Dorrans’ injury troubles are another example, not to mention the underwhelming Fabio Cardoso, so it is understandable that they would not want to splurge out a huge sum for a 28-year old.

But Rangers definitely want him, and if agreement is reached, he will be at Ibrox next month.

  1. I am pleased with myself for my talent spotting a good young player with great potential when I see them play.

Plenty of our Ibrox Noise faithful gave me pelters for wanting young Bates given a chance to excel in a Rangers first team.

He didn't put a foot wrong in todays match at Celtic Park and could easily have been our man of the match.

I watched the game live at 8am this morning on American ESPN and Paul Mariner the ex England player was raving about Bates and McCrorie. He thinks that McCrorie reads the game exceptionally well for a kid and he was loving the way David Bates was playing. He was winning everything and was Paul's man of the match and thought that Rangers have a real find with him.

I now feel exonerated for opening my big mouth and putting him forward for a starting place.

I am desperate for Rangers to play 3 centre halves at the back and 2 holding players – with everybody else attacking at will.

Foderingham was excellent today, especially with the Forrest save and Morales was extremely unlucky not to score in the 2nd half.

Unfortunately, Kranjcar is not match fit and was a passenger. He should have been replaced at half time and Holt's passing is dreadful and he cannot tackle a fish supper.

A great effort from the team and a very well deserved draw, which could easily have been 3 points with a little bit of luck.

    • Attack at will Richard!??
We need a handful in the window before we start going 》》》》》》

  2. Talent spotting?? We only need one signing this January. We require steel and bite in the middle. The talent has been spotted in Ebinburgh by the name of a young man called McGinn. This is the only signing we require

  3. Yesterday was encouraging. Alves will learn Bates and Wilson. Kranjcar will come good again. There is one thing staring everybody in the face. Lack of steel in midfield. We need 4 million to send to Hibs and take McGinn to Ibrox. Simple !!!

  4. We need to return Rangers to Rangers, simply the best. If you have bad teeth, then you go to the dentist to have them removed. The teeth for removal are as follows:
    Windass, Herrera, Hodson & Holt.
    New implants required as follows:
    McGinn, Morgan.
The other implants are already there in Aiden Wilson and Ryan Hardie. Young Ridden will also come good.

  5. EJF, all bad teeth don’t need to be extracted! Windass is a filling. This guy is untapped potential. I agree with Holt, Herrera, Pena, Hodson, Niko also is done. Young Hardie has to be given a run. He could be a gold tooth!
