Poll: should Rangers sell Wes Foderingham?

It has been reported recently that Nottingham Forest manager Mark Warburton is monitoring Rangers’ goalkeeper Wes Foderingham and has (predictably) cryptically stated that he is ‘very close’ to a new signing but naturally has not elaborated on who this is.

With Forest also linked to Bournemouth’s Adam Federici (also a goalkeeper) it does appear likely Warburton is going for strengthening in that area, but the key issue is do Rangers want or need to sell Foderingham.

Praised by many fans, criticised now and then by some, Foderingham was undeniably one of the few players who managed to handle the step up to the SPL last season, and if not for his quality Rangers might not have walked away from Fir Park with all three points last weekend.

But for all that, he gets a lot of stick over his presence in the box and ability to come for crosses, and got pretty much all the blame for Motherwell’s equaliser – whether fair or otherwise.

So if the price is right, would fans be content with the sale – or is Wes indispensible?

  1. We have been spoiled with a succession of excellent goalkeepers at Rangers over the years. For me Foderingham will never be in that class and ultimately at some point we will need an upgrade to challenge for honours. His inability to come for cross balls will cost us goals all season long.
Having said all that it is time to stop Warburton raiding Ibrox on the cheap. If we get a good price £2 million plus then sell. If we do though then we need to bring in a new keeper as I don't think we can go into the season with the current back up as our number 1. My choice would be to bring back McGregor from Hull.

    • Hear, hear. Agree as well that we shouldn't sell any more players on the cheap (unless they're called Robert Kiernan lol). 2 million would be decent business for us and Forest.

  2. Rangers are diabolical at corners and free kicks, because Wes NEVER comes out with ANY confidence. Against Motherwell Wallace let the cross come in, Cardoso miss-times the ball and never headed the ball out and you've guessed it, Foderingham started to come out and went back again.

Later in the game he tried coming out and missed the ball by a mile.

Great save near the end and saved us from a draw or maybe even a loss.

  3. Dutch International, Tim Krul, is training with Newcastle kids as he won't sign a new deal with 12 months left. Still only 29 years old and with experience of Scottish football having played 22 games for Falkirk as a youngster.

He'd be an upgrade on Wes…

  4. Let's be honest wes makes far too many mistakes both positionally and coming for crosses think if we're being critical and analysed games we'd see that he costs us time after time think back how many goals did goram klos mcgregor cost us a season 2?3?. As for kim krul great shout 🖒
