Exodus: Pedro confirms majority of squad to be replaced

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha has confirmed he intends to continue the sweeping changes at Ibrox, with the most dramatic (wilful) overhaul arguably in the club’s history.

Speaking about this summer’s business, Caixinha confirmed he seeks to ship 14 players out, while bringing in 11. Naturally three of the 14 have been (unofficially in places) announced as Joe Garner, Clint Hill and Philippe Senderos, but the future is now looking shaky for a further 11, and press this morning claims Jordan Rossiter, previously mooted for a big role next season, is one of them.

Further names at threat of leaving are Josh Windass (Hull interested), Barrie McKay (Forest interested), Matt Crooks (Scunthorpe interested), Martyn Waghorn (Scunthorpe interested again) not to mentioned Andy Halliday, Harry Forrester, Rob Kiernan and Michael O’Halloran.

As to who the other two are, answers on a post card. Jason Holt? Joe Dodoo?

Caixinha said:

“The team has undergone a major refurbishment – there could be 14 players leaving and 11 players coming into the club. It has been a struggle against time since we have to register the players in European competitions by June 19.”

Admittedly this does confirm Pedro is not 100% guaranteed to get shot of all the players he considers dead wood, but not for the wont of trying.

As for the 11 incoming, well we have seen six of them confirmed, while another two are speculated to have been completed, so the overhaul he discussed is clearly no exaggeration.

The Rangers team which takes the field on the 29th against their Luxembourg friends could be 90% altered from the one which limped out the 2016/2017 season in third place.

Let us hope.

  1. If they need registered by today, then he's not got Walker, Dorrans, Morelo, Pena or Herrera to call upon unless there is some fierce faxing going on at the moment.

I was surprised to see 14 mentioned- seems a high number if he's looking for competition.
I wouldn't be upset to see Forrester or Kiernan go. I don't rate Dodoo either. The rest I think are perfectly capable squad players who should be competing for first team spots.
Wage bills I suppose call the shots.

Still, 11 in? Who are the other three?

  2. Yes but if you are on £5k plus would you sign for some other team that only offer half that no you would not and a manager who says what he is thinking out loud will make it much harder for him to get them out the door.

  4. Canny help but feel that 14 out and 11 in is asking for trouble. Can t really remember such a big overhaul being successful in recent times. Quite the opposite actually. I still think there are guys from last year who will really benefit from better players being around them.

  5. I am surprised Tavernier has not been chosen for the chop,on numerous occasions he was the cause of us being left dangerously open at the back
he was never a right back and always out of position
Put him on the transfer list

    • He'll be on the transfer list, it's just that no one wants a full back who is the 'cause of being left dangerously open…never a right across and always out of position', especially one who was so exposed in Scotland. Where he going to go – a Scottish championship team, as that was his level, or an English league 1/2. I don't think many clubs would be interested and he won't move while picking up a wage

    • I hate to disagree with fellow Gers fans but I don't think Pedro has any intention of letting Tavernier go; he seems to be in his plans for the forthcoming season.
I do agree totally with your comments as I personally don't think he is anywhere near either a good right back or an overlapping right back or attacking wide man as he seems to have lost all his abilities to either cross a moving ball or set pieces, whether corners or free kicks.
