Rangers complete first midfield summer signing; reports

Unconfirmed reports circulating around Ibrox claim new manager Pedro Caixinha has finally completed his first signing, a three year deal for Aberdeen’s Ryan Jack, it is said.

The 25 year old midfielder has been on Rangers’ radar for some time, and has been an integral part of the Dons’ side which has sweeped its way to second place in the SPL, while performing impressively against Rangers along the way.

The Scotland youth international (who has played for his country at various youth ranks) has impressed enough of late to receive senior international call ups, and Rangers fans have been mostly positive about the player ever since he was linked to Ibrox some months ago.

Rangers desperately need quality in midfield, and the (ex?) Aberdeen central playmaker on a pre-contract would be a step in the direction many fans want. But at this stage it remains unconfirmed so no one get too excited just yet…

  1. This would be fantastic. His quality and profile is exactly what we need in the middle of the park.

  2. Agree. Quality Scottish player. Young enough to improve and potentially sell on, experienced enough to hit the ground running.

Now if we could break the bank and slot John McGinn and Graham Dorrans in next to him the midfield is sorted…!!

  3. Sorry I have not noticed him when Aberdeen played us this season underwhelming signing if true.

  4. John McGinn is a Celtic man I would like him but he would not come to us. Ryan jack is what we need and Dorrans and the Greek man at hearts that Pedro has worked with .that would be a good midfield for free.

  5. I think John McGinn is a Celtic man and would not come to us , he is good and a worker that we need .Ryan jack and tziolis Dorrans would be as good as we would get for midfield and all three for free.

  6. Just out of interest, if Jason Cummings were an option, how many here would have him at Ibrox?
As for Jack, any player that has the epithet "midfield enforcer" next to his name is good for me, especially young and Scottish.

    • I'd welcome Jason Cummings all day long, Doug. Top young player. Agree with what you say about Jack too. We need a few tough nuts in the team. A good quote from Souness a few years back about his signings at Rangers:

“At the time, the opposition wouldn't sit in the dressing room and say, "Come on, let's go and have a jolly, lovely game of football with Glasgow Rangers today." The first thing they’d want to test was, you know, “Do they really fancy it today? Are they up for the fight?” And I always felt that Rangers, and maybe it still applies today, that we had to have a team that had 2 or 3 warriors in there that thought, “You can have a game of football today chaps, or you can have a war today” I was very conscious of that.”

    • I agree with this comment.

For all Kenny Miller does his best to get people going, Rangers are sorely lacking 2 or 3 players who, when it requires, will roll their sleeves up, grab a game by the scruff of the neck and batter the opponents into submission.

For all intents and purposes, Garner enjoys the physical aspect of the game. You could see against Hearts, every time he made contact with another player he had again on his face. If we can pair him with Moult I can see that as a good Partnership.

If we could get someone like Jack in and Alves that adds a tough spine through the team who won't shirk away from a war.

  7. Surely you'd do not think that Greek guy that can't get a game at hearts is good enough can't really pass comment on jack a haven't watched enough Aberdeen games to give an honest opinion, but at a free it's very low risk , someone mentioned stevie Mallan an st.mirren I'm sure he is away to Bristol city now in championship 200k we missed boat there

  8. It's true- for every Messi, you need a Mascherano, for every Hazard, a Kante. I've a lot of time for Jason Holt, but he's no enforcer. And Halliday in there was a nightmare waiting to happen. Warburton tried to fix it with Barton and Rossiter and we all know how that turned out. Still think Crooks could do well there, though. With someone solid behind him, someone like Windass could really kick on too.
We need a growler of a captain, as well- not sure who'd fit that profile at the moment.
Interesting to see Pedro come out and say what I've been banging on about for months- if you put the ball in the box, Joe Garner will win it more often than not. I think he could be a top asset given service- he's bossed defences last couple of games. Would be even better with a strike partner to flick on to.
Yes, there is some dross to get rid of, but I think we still have a few potentially good performers on the books myself.

  9. Jack would be a good signing for us but I wish Pedro would keep his mouth shut until he is certain things have been done. What he said about Aberdeen could come back to haunt him on Wednesday.

  10. Jack is defo worth signing up for the Gers, he's proven in the SPL worked his arse off at Aberdeen to become skipper at such a young age.. DM is no mug of a Manager either so he must rate him highly to make him skipper and he wanted him to stay don't forget that.. It would have a huge effect against the Sheep next season too

  11. John McGinn might prefer Celtic but if the deal is right he'd sign for Rangers.

Remember Scott Allan? Massive Rangers fan apparently… but when the deal is right it no longer matters
